Classmate Matthew Veyette said he could tell Timms had a lot of professionalism and passion for what he did.

“He really did care about giving back and about not taking things for granted. Even the smallest gestures he didn’t take for granted,” Veyette said. “He was one of us; he was one of the designers.”

Former classmate and friend Adrian Garcia took design classes with Timms and checked in with him regularly. They would discuss ideas for projects, and Timms would crack jokes and share memes.

“[The event is] just to bring the community into Long Beach and to Shoreline Village specifically,” Elaine Meyers, Shoreline Village’s event coordinator, said. “Believe it or not, a lot of people in Long Beach don’t even know Shoreline Village.”

The event, which ran from 4 to 10 p.m., aimed to include everyone with activities for all ages.

Before complete zombie horror took over, children participated in light-hearted festivities from 4 to 7 p.m. in a grassy area near Yard House restaurant.

According to Education Source, “CSU officials say on-campus housing improves students’ graduation rates and could ease housing pressures for Cal State’s 460,000 students.”

This fact is not surprising as people seek connection within a community that is new and exciting. However, how can students plant their roots if they cannot even find a place to live?

The simple fact is there’s not nearly enough housing on our campus for incoming and returning students.

Beneath the industrial Long Beach skyline, green sea turtles surface in waters once thought too harsh to sustain them. During the Aquarium of the Pacific’s Oct. 8 “First Wednesdays” lecture series, attendees learned how their growing presence along the San Gabriel River has turned an overlooked waterway into a living laboratory.

“When I was a freshman, I had this peer mentor thing and she’d say, ‘Oh let’s go [to] The Nugget,’” Francisco said. “That was like the spot.”

Similarly, for junior recreation and leisure studies major Raiden Vander Horck, the Nugget carries meaningful memories. Along with his love for the patty melt, Vander Horck was first introduced to his fraternity, Theta Chi, at the Nugget.

“One of the guys who got me interested in rushing, sat me down at The Nugget and that’s where I got interested,” Vander Horck said.

For Vander Horck, news of the closure has been disappointing for both himself and his parents, who are CSULB alumni. His parents were saddened to see a piece of the university’s history close, he said.
