🎶🎼🥁🎺 Come enjoy the music at Atom Jazz Fest!

The festival is bringing three days of music featuring more than 85 artists to the Garden at Left Hand Brewing (Left Hand Brewing Company) this weekend! The eclectic lineup ranges from high school ensembles to Grammy-nominated players.

The bill features trombonist Stafford Hunter (Stafford Hunter), a longtime member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra. The Ken Walker Tribute Sextet honors the late Colorado Music Hall of Fame bassist, who was a fixture of the Denver jazz scene for decades. And Longmont-based vocalist Deborah Stafford brings her Swingtet. Also on the bill: the Longmont All-Star Jazz Band (Longmont All-Star Jazz Band), a program that gives Boulder County high schoolers the chance to work with professional musicians through master classes and community performances.

This inaugural festival extends Atom Jazz Network’s (Atom Jazz Network) year-round work. The Longmont nonprofit connects jazz artists with venues across Northern Colorado, mentors emerging players, and creates gig opportunities that help sustain a genre where musicians often struggle to find footing. At the festival, that mission plays out on a second stage dedicated to student and emerging artists, including performers from Front Range Community College (Front Range Community College) and the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts (CCJA). FRCC students also run sound and lighting alongside professional engineers, and the winning design from a student art contest at the college appears on festival posters and T-shirts.

Local food vendors rotate daily, and Longmont Food Rescue (Longmont Food Rescue) is collecting nonperishable donations on-site. This festival is free and family friendly. 1245 Boston Avenue

Front Range Community College ( ) and the Longmont Downtown Development Authority () are growing something cool at First and Main Streets—a new mural! Coming soon to the wall of Jester's Dinner Theater.

Visionary behind the mural is graphic design major, Caroline Behnke who until now had only painted on traditional canvases. The inspiration? Local flowers and the pollinators.

"All of a sudden we're [painting] 10 feet tall butterflies and stuff," she laughs. "It's fun trying to merge all of our creative processes and styles together into one because I've never really done a creative thing like collaborating with other people. So, yeah, it's a new experience and a good one."

Behnke joins student volunteers and six interns from FRCC as well as faculty member, Makenzie Davis.

Half the fun of learning about DayTrip Street-Legal Golf Carts (Daytrip Carts) is meeting co-owner Matt Zwiebel. After a family trip to Florida, where golf carts abound, he said to his wife, “I’m bringing this culture to Colorado.”

With life-of-the-party energy, Zwiebel and co-owner John Bogosian set up shop in Longmont with a showroom and lounge that showcases carts and what makes owning one so rewarding and fun.

“At DayTrip, our motto is simple: Every day is more fun in a golf cart,” says Zwiebel. And he’s not wrong. There is a thrill and ease to cruising around town in a cart, not to mention the benefits of less dependency on gas and safety for young drivers.

Known as low-speed vehicles, these long-range electric carts can be registered, plated, and driven throughout town on roads that are 35 mph and under. Zwiebel also points to the many amenities the two-, four-, and six-passenger carts have, from back-up cameras and wireless phone chargers to touch screen displays and premium sound systems.

Warning: A free test drive might result in an unexpectedly good time with the DayTrip owners and a thought-provoking opportunity to reconsider one’s current mode of transportation.
