🎵Me: 😬 “Just wait till you gotta learn the G Major chord” *displays G*

🎵Student: 😎 “What...this?” *busts out a G*

🎵Me: 😯”WHOAA! Yea, that!”

T H E • S E C R E T
to getting your kids to practice.

As you know, kids love to show off and make their parents proud. “Mom look at me. No hands!” So how can you as a parent use this to your advantage? It’s all in the words and the delivery.

Don’t say:

❌ “Did you practice piano today?

❌”Remember our agreement; 20 minutes a day”

👆This makes kids run the other way.

You might as well replace “practice” with “homework”. This leads to a power struggle. Instead give your child a chance to perform. To show off.

Make a request:

👉 “Will you play me some guitar while I read?”

👉 “Play me a song. I love it when you play the guitar.”

Even if you get the pre-teen eye roll, it will make them feel good. It will make them feel wanted. It will make them feel loved. It’s the exact environment a child needs to thrive in. And in most cases, they’ll be more motivated to practice.
