I Took a Week Off Work and It Showed Me Everything I've Been Fighting For

A taste of my own terms and now I can't unsee it.

I took a week off work recently and I need to talk about it.

Not because it was anything extravagant. I didn't go on some big vacation or do anything that would look crazy on paper. But something about that week felt different. It felt like breathing. It felt like me.

I got to hang out with my boyfriend without rushing. I went shopping just because I wanted to. I woke up and moved at my own pace. And most importantly I got to pour real time into my content and my creative work in a way that I usually have to squeeze into whatever energy I have left at the end of a long day. That week I didn't have leftover energy. I had all of it. And the difference was everything.

I got a taste of what it feels like to live life on my own terms and now I cannot unsee it.

Here's what I want to be clear about because I know how this can sound. I am genuinely grateful for my job. It has provided for me, it has taught me things and it has given me the stability to even build toward what I really want. I'm not sitting here ungrateful. But gratitude and desire can exist at the same time. I can be thankful for where I am and still be hungry for more. Those two things are not in conflict.

What I want is to work for myself. And I don't just mean content creation, I mean all of it. The content, the entrepreneurial work, the brands, the creative projects, everything I've been building and dreaming about. A life where all of my endeavors work together and I am the one deciding how my time gets spent. That is not impossible. I need to say that clearly because sometimes the way we talk about things like this makes it sound like a fantasy. It is not a fantasy. It is a plan.

But more than the money or the business, what I keep coming back to is time. Controlling my time. That is what I have been screaming at the top of my lungs. When I had that week I wasn't just relaxed, I was aligned. I felt like myself. I felt like the version of me that I've been working so hard to become had a little room to actually show up and breathe.

And I'm at a point in my life where I am done doing things just because that's how everyone does it or because that's just how it is. The whole "this is just life" narrative doesn't sit right with me anymore. I know that might sound like a privileged perspective and I want to acknowledge that because not everyone has the same options or starting point and I'm not blind to that. But I also believe this feeling is more universal than we admit. The exhaustion of living on someone else's schedule. The quiet ache of knowing there is more in you than your Monday through Friday is allowing you to express. If you've ever felt that, this is for you too.

I'm going to make more money. I'm going to do what I love. I'm going to build something that is fully mine. And I say that not from a place of arrogance but from a place of deep faith. Because if God wrote it for me it will happen. It doesn't matter what's going on in the world, it doesn't matter what the economy looks like, it doesn't matter who believes it or who doesn't. If it is for me, it is for me.

That week off didn't just feel good. It felt like a confirmation.

I'm not stopping until that becomes my every day. 🤍
