This classic 1968 original Gibson Les Paul Goldtop is a rare piece of music history and pop culture from producer Michael Beinhornâs own collection. If this guitar could talk, it would regale you with tales of rock and roll legends.
Beinhorn first discovered the amazing sound of this Goldtop in 1995 when he was recording with Social Distortion on their album, White Light, White Heat, White Trash, noting that it had âthat prototypical Les Paul sound.â He has since used it to record albums like Ozzmosis by Ozzy Osbourne, Celebrity Skin by Hole, Mechanical Animals by Marilyn Manson, The Verve Pipe, Shot to Hell by Black Label Society, Untouchables by Korn, and much more. The original tuning pegs and frets have been replaced, but other than that, all parts are original. The original tuning pegs have been saved and will be shipped with the guitar. One interesting thing about this guitar is that, unlike most Goldtops, this one has square routing as opposed to circular routing.
Legend has it that when Les Paul was sued by Gibson in the 50âs, they had to halt the production of these guitars. So a whole factory allegedly had all these bodies just sitting there collecting dust for over a decade, gradually mellowing with the wood curing. Once the lawsuit was settled, Gibson was able to sell these aged-to-perfection guitars as â68 reissues.
