📰 U.S. Officially Completes Withdrawal from World Health Organization
🇺🇸 The United States has formally finalized its withdrawal from the World Health Organization, the Department of Health and Human Services announced Thursday, marking the end of a decades-long membership in the global health body.
✍️ President Donald Trump signed an executive order on his first day back in office in 2025 directing the U.S. to leave the WHO, citing what he described as the agency’s mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic and concerns over what he called disproportionate financial contributions compared to other member nations.
📅 Nearly one year later, the Departments of Health and Human Services and State confirmed the withdrawal process is now complete. U.S. officials said the move fulfills a key foreign policy and public health pledge made by the president.
🌍 The U.S. had been a WHO member since the organization’s founding in 1948. The agency, a specialized arm of the United Nations, coordinates international public health efforts, including disease monitoring and responses to global outbreaks.
