Yesterday we were honored to attend the MISSION BBQ September 11th Memorial event.. Remembering all of the lives lost 25 years ago and all of the lives lost from related injuries and illness. Many first responders heroically risked their lives running into danger to save the lives of others. It's our duty to carry on bravely and to face danger just as they did and never forget them and everyone they tried to save.

An Australian Light Horse photograph found today of a Trooper asleep in front of horse lines of the 4th Light Horse, during WW1.

Troopers mostly slept in the open without tents during active desert campaigns, as they traveled light for speed.

On freezing desert nights, men often slept right next to their horses, using the animals for warmth and comfort against the bitter cold.

During major operations, the men went days at a time with almost zero sleep..

In extreme operational scenarios, individual horses could be kept active and continually saddled for up to 7 days and nights, with riders catching only tiny fractions of sleep (averaging 3 hours a day) directly in the saddle or while resting briefly on the ground with the reins wrapped around their boots.

Lest We Forget,

Photograph came from the Australian War Memorial. Image file number AWM PS0497.

Who were they? And what really happened inside that trench as Soviet forces broke through toward Berlin?
