Sergeant Johanny Rosario Pichardo, , from Lawrence, Massachusetts, was a radiant soul whose vibrant spirit and unwavering dedication defined her life and service.

At just 18, she enlisted in the US Corps, driven by a deep sense of duty and a desire to make a difference.

In her eight years of service with the Naval Amphibious Force, Task Force 51/5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Johanny rose to the rank of Sergeant and served as a supply chief, a role typically held by more senior Marines, earning her two medals and a commendation for her meticulous work.

Deployed to Afghanistan for the second time in August 2021, she volunteered for the Female Engagement Team, screening women and children at Kabul's Hamid Karzai International Airport during the chaotic evacuation. On August 26, 2021, at age 25, was killed in a su***de bombing at Abbey Gate, alongside 12 other U.S. service members and 169 Afghan civilians, while heroically assisting two Afghan women being crushed in the crowd.

Her final words, "They need me, sir," reflected her selflessness and courage. Johanny's sacrifice helped save thousands, embodying the Marine Corps' values of honor and commitment.

Her legacy endures in Lawrence, where a mural and scholarship honor her heroism, and in the hearts of her family and community, who cherish the memory of a true hero.
