Alabama student reportedly fell to his death in Barcelona waters by accident.
A University of Alabama student who was found dead in Barcelona after going missing while vacationing evidently fell into the sea by accident in view of surveillance cameras – and an autopsy revealed injuries on his body that were consistent with having repeatedly struck a breakwater’s rocks.

Such details about James “Jimmy” Gracey surfaced in the Spanish media as a spokesperson for police in Barcelona told the Associated Press that “all signs point” to the 20-year-old’s death as having been inadvertent.

Gracey was last seen outside the Shoko nightclub at about 3am on Tuesday. The native of suburban Chicago raised alarm when he did not return to a short-term rental where he was staying with friends who accompanied him on their spring break to the Catalan region’s capital.

And, in a development that generated international news headlines, his co**se ultimately was recovered Thursday afternoon in 13ft deep waters off a beach near the Shoko club.

Spain’s El País newspaper, citing police sources, reported on Friday that local surveillance cameras captured video of Gracey walking by himself toward a dock and falling into the water “without third-party involvement”.

El Periódico, another outlet, added on Friday that a preliminary autopsy report filed in court in Barcelona “rules out foul play and supports the police hypothesis that [Gracey] accidentally fell into the sea and drowned”. Furthermore, the autopsy report documented “several injuries consistent with hitting the rocks of a breakwater”, according to Barcelona-based El Periódico, which also wrote that toxicology test results were pending.

The outlets’ reports contained details about the two-day search for Gracey. At one point, El País reported, Barcelona police found Gracey’s cellphone in the possession of a thief known to officers. But it was unclear whether Gracey lost the device or if it was stolen from him, and investigators ruled out its having anything to do with the subsequent fall into the sea, according to El País.

Meanwhile, El Periódico reported that police narrowed their search for Gracey after finding his wallet and some clothes. The outlet also reported that Gracey’s parents had traveled to Barcelona, and his body would be released to his family for repatriation and burial after the completion of the toxicology tests.

A statement from Gracey’s family members asked for prayers and privacy as they struggle “to come to terms with this unimaginable loss”.

“Our family is heartbroken,” the statement also said. “Jimmy was a deeply loved son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin and friend.”

Barcelona draws millions of foreign tourists annually. It is considered generally safe, especially compared with major cities in the US, which has significantly higher rates of deadly gun violence than other high-income nations.

The Mediterranean beaches in Barcelona are within walking distance of its bustling city center and frequently draw young visitors. When he went missing, Gracey had gone out to a stretch of beach lined with restaurants and nightclubs that are popular with both locals and visitors.

Before police confirmed Gracey’s death, his aunt described him in an interview with the AP as “just a great kid, a good Catholic boy” from the US’s midwest.

A statement from the University of Alabama said its community was “heartbroken” upon learning of Gracey’s death.

“Jimmy’s loss is deeply felt across our campus,” the university’s statement said. “Our condolences are with the Gracey family during this devastating time.”

Woman, 45, Took Birth Control Shots for 21 Years. Now, She’s Been Diagnosed with 4 Brain Tumors.
A woman said she “regrets” ever getting birth control shots after she was diagnosed with four brain tumors, which her doctors said could be linked.

Kerry Sharples told doctors during a routine visit in 2025 that she was experiencing pulsing in her right ear, according to Kennedy News.

Sharples, 45, said her doctor ordered some scans and bloodwork as a precaution, and she was later hit with shocking news: she had four benign brain tumors, also known as meningiomas. (The largest of the tumors was behind her right eye and measured about 1.4 inches.)

The woman said it was at that point that her doctor advised her to stop taking her hormonal birth control shots — which she had been receiving regularly for 21 years, in order to avoid getting monthly periods.

"I regret taking these injections,” Sharples said. “It sounds so silly now, that I just didn't want the periods and stayed on it. And now I've got four brain tumors. I'd take the periods any day now. It's crazy.”

According to Sharples, who is a mom of two, her doctor explained to her after she learned of her brain tumors that there was relatively new evidence suggesting a small link between the contraceptive shots and her diagnosis.

The woman said that, had she known of a link, however small, between the shots and meningiomas beforehand, she likely would have made a different decision about her personal health plan.

"I know a lot of ladies had certain side effects, but as far as I was concerned, I was fine. I thought, 'Why change something that wasn't broken?' Had they mentioned [the brain tumors], it would've been different,” Sharples, of Cheshire, England, said.

"I was a bit naive to [not] look into it," she added. "But you just presume you're getting it from the doctors, so you're okay."
Sharples did not reveal the specific name of the birth control injection she had been using.

Looking back, Sharples said she was in “complete shock” over the diagnosis. She added that she still doesn’t know whether she’s fully come to terms with it.

"I'm very much a crack on and get on with it [kind of person,] but sometimes it does get to you,” she said.

Sharples — who now fears that she might have gone blind, or died, had her doctor not ordered the tests — added of her brain tumors: "I'm hoping they shrink, or just don't grow, now I'm off [the hormones]."

Sharples hopes that by sharing her story, more women will be made aware of the potential risks of synthetic progesterone-based birth control shots.

“I don't want to scare people [or] to put the fear of God into them, but they do need to be aware of what [the shots] can cause," she said.

Beloved NHL Reporter Jessi Pierce and Her 3 Kids Die in Minnesota House Fire
“Jessi’s love of her family and hockey was evident in the energy and passion she brought to her work for us,” the NHL said in a statement.
On Saturday, March 21, firefighters responded to a residential structure fire at a single-family home located on the 2100 block of Richard Avenue at around 5:25 a.m. local time, according to the White Bear Lake Fire Department.

After neighbors reported seeing fire coming through the roof of the house, noting that there were likely people inside, crews found a fully involved structure fire upon arrival.

Firefighters immediately began fire suppression efforts and were able to locate an adult, three children and a dog inside the house. Unfortunately, the White Bear Lake Fire Department confirmed that all were deceased.

“Our hearts ache for all those involved in this tragedy,” Fire Chief Greg Peterson wrote in a news release. “We ask for the opportunity to allow our community to come together and support one another during this difficult time.”

Shortly after the incident, the NHL confirmed that Pierce, who was a contributor to NHL.com for the past 10 seasons, as well as a co-host of the Bardown Beauties podcast, had died in the fire alongside her three children — Hudson, Cayden and Avery.

A Florida woman has been arrested and charged after allegedly urinating on thousands of dollars' worth of items in two separate Airbnb rentals.
Nicolette Keough, 31, of Pensacola, was named as the suspect in the alleged incident, according to WDBJ 7, News Channel 8 and Fox 34.

An Airbnb owner filed a criminal mischief complaint against Keough on March 15 after she received information that Keough had urinated on a number of items in her property, according to arrest documents from the Pensacola Police (PPD), per News Channel 8.

The owner later allegedly found videos of a woman — who was identified as Keough — urinating in the Airbnb that were uploaded to an adult content website. The owner also reported that there was a strong smell of urine in the home following Keough’s visit, per the PPD, according to News Channel 8.

Police additionally said that Keough urinated in another Airbnb property owned by the same person on the same street, according to News Channel 8.

The owner found that an antique Crown Royal chair, rug, typewriter, four dining room chairs, coffee maker, bed, TV, record player, toaster and electric fireplace had been ruined, per the police report, according to the outlet.

In a statement to PEOPLE, PPD public information officer Mike Wood said that police approached Keough after learning about the incident and eventually arrested her for felony criminal mischief, as the damages were in excess of $3,000.

In a statement to PEOPLE, a spokesperson for Airbnb said: “This kind of behavior has no place on Airbnb. We’ve removed the guest from our platform and are continuing to assist the host with their reimbursement request through our AirCover damage protection for hosts.”

“Property damage incidents during Airbnb stays are rare, and our hosts are backed by our 24/7 global Community Support and AirCover, which are included with every reservation,” the spokesperson added.

My dad really tested my nerves on vacation 😢
He called me out of nowhere asking if I had full coverage insurance. Then he sent this picture of “Pickup” crushed by a tree.
For a solid few minutes, my heart was racing and I was already imagining the worst.
Then he casually goes, “Relax… it’s AI.”
Honestly, family pranks like this should come with a warning 🙄😮‍💨

300 dogs, cats being rescued after search warrant served at Lake Hughes property.
A rescue operation was underway for hundreds of dogs and cats at a property in Lake Hughes Friday morning, and it could be the largest case of its kind in the U.S.

A search warrant for violation of animal welfare laws was served on 266th Street West around 7 a.m., the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) said in an Instagram post.

DACC officials said they found about 300 animals on the property, mostly dogs, with 50-75 cats. They were in the custody of Christine De Anda of Rock N Paws Animal Rescue. Officials initially estimated the number of animals found to have been 700.

"The animals are currently being triaged on site by veterinary and medical staff. Those animals requiring emergency medical care will be immediately transported to veterinary hospitals. The others will be transported to DACC animal care centers for further evaluation and care," officials said in a press release.

More than 70 animal care and control staff were on scene for the rescue operation. Officials say it is the largest number of dogs and cats the DACC has ever seized, and it may be the largest case ever in the country.

The massive operation is expected to put a strain on resources and housing capacity at county shelters.

"DACC is working with adoption partner rescue groups and other animal welfare agencies to transfer currently adoptable dogs and cats so that there is enough room to admit the rescued animals," the agency said.

Marcia Mayeda, director of the DACC, is requesting the public's help to support the rescue and rehabilitation of the animals - either through adoption or donations to the Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation.

DACC animal care centers are not usually open to the public on Sundays. However, they will be open from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 22 to expand placement efforts.

Master sergeant dies in crash at Louisiana State Penitentiary.
A 27-year-old master sergeant at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola has died after a car crash on prison grounds.

Tyler Grezaffi was involved in a vehicle incident on the grounds of Louisiana State Penitentiary on March 18, 2026, according to the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections.

Grezaffi had a career in law enforcement. She worked at the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office before switching to Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Office and then to Angola. She had been at Angola for over a year.

When she worked for the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office, she worked with her father, Sgt. Scott Grezaffi.

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections released a statement:

“The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections is deeply saddened to share the unexpected passing of one of our valued team members. Master Sergeant Tyler Grezaffi was involved in a vehicle incident on the grounds of Louisiana State Penitentiary (LSP) on March 18, 2026.

Master Sergeant Tyler Grezaffi was an integral part of our team, known for her professionalism, commitment and positive spirit. Her contributions to our organization and the relationships she built with colleagues will not be forgotten.

“Although Tyler Grezaffi was at the beginning of her promising career in public safety and corrections, she had already made a significant impact through her previous roles with the Pointe Coupee and Iberville Parish Sheriffs’ Offices,” said Gary Westcott, secretary, Louisiana Department of Public Safety Corrections. “Since joining our department, more than a year ago, her dedication, energy and kindness have left an unforgettable mark on everyone she encountered.”

Louisiana State Police is currently investigating the incident."

The Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office released a statement on facebook:

“The Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office asks our community to join us in prayer for the family, friends, and loved ones of former Deputy Tyler Grezaffi.

Tyler worked for the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office as a deputy in the early parts of her career. She is also the daughter of one of our own, Sgt. Scott Grezaffi, a longtime member of our agency. Many of us have had the privilege of watching Tyler grow up over the years as she followed in her father’s footsteps and became part of our law enforcement family.

Tyler was a beautiful soul who brought light to everyone around her — both within our department and throughout the community. Her kindness, dedication, and bright spirit left a lasting impression on those who knew and worked alongside her. At the time of her passing, Tyler was proudly serving at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, continuing her commitment to a career in public service.

The loss of Tyler is deeply painful and impactful for our entire PCPSO family. During this incredibly difficult time, we ask that you keep Sgt. Grezaffi, the Grezaffi family, and all who loved Tyler in your thoughts and prayers.

Please continue to lift this family up as they navigate the difficult days ahead."

Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi released a statement:

“In early 2019, Tyler Grezaffi proudly served as a member of the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office. Although her time with us was brief, she demonstrated a deep commitment to the profession and a passion for service that left a lasting impression on those who had the honor of working alongside her.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Tyler Grezaffi at just 27 years old. She had a fierce love for law enforcement and dedicated her young life to serving others.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office extends its heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who are mourning her loss during this difficult time. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers."
