Charles Joughin was the chief baker aboard the RMS Titanic when it struck an iceberg on April 14, 1912. As chaos spread, he acted fast—sending his 13 assistant bakers up to the boat deck with over 50 loaves of bread so those in lifeboats would have something to eat. Although he had a place in Lifeboat 10, he chose to stay behind.

Instead of leaving, Joughin focused on helping others. He tossed dozens of deck chairs into the icy ocean to give struggling passengers something to cling to, and he assisted women and children into lifeboats.

At one point, he returned to his cabin and drank a significant amount of whisky. Then he went back on deck as the ship sank deeper into the freezing Atlantic.

When the RMS Titanic sinking reached its final moments, Joughin went down with it into the water. Remarkably, he stayed alive for nearly two hours in the freezing sea. He later said he barely felt the cold—possibly due to shock and the alcohol.

Eventually, he was rescued, clinging to life in the water until help arrived. Against all odds, he survived with only swollen feet. His story remains one of the most extraordinary survival accounts from the Titanic tragedy.

In a bustling Texas diner, waitress Melina Salazar was known for her patience. While others avoided the infamously grumpy 89-year-old WWII veteran Walter “Buck” Swords, Melina became his steadfast server.
Buck was a fixture, but a challenging one. He rarely smiled, often complained, never left a tip, and sometimes upset other diners. Despite this, Melina treated him with unwavering kindness. She greeted him with a warm smile, served his meals precisely as he liked them, and never let his gruff demeanor affect her. For seven years, they had a silent understanding.
When Buck’s table remained empty one day, Melina worried. Her concerns were later confirmed by a call from Buck's lawyer—the old veteran had passed away.
Then came the shock. In his will, Buck had left Melina a staggering $50,000 and his beloved 2000 Buick. Alongside the inheritance was a simple note: a heartfelt thank you for the one person who had been consistently kind to him. Melina’s quiet dedication had made a lasting impact, proving that true kindness is never truly lost.

Upon opening the door, refrain from entering immediately. Pause for a brief moment, compose yourself, and proceed with a calm, deliberate stride.

The Effect:

This practice lends a sense of gravity and poise to your arrival. Consequently, you command the room’s attention naturally, without the need for effort.
