Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the current government over economic challenges that have led to despair and anguish among citizens. Speaking at a public lecture themed "Sustainability of Democracy in Africa: The Ghanaian Experience" at the Christian Service University in Kumasi, Mahama emphasized the detrimental impact of economic hardships, corruption, and wastage of national resources under the current administration.
Mahama highlighted the ongoing debate on social media comparing the value of obtaining a foreign passport for menial work in Europe to pursuing a PhD in Ghana, attributing this discussion to the prevailing sense of hopelessness and lack of confidence in Ghana's future. He underscored the need for leadership that prioritizes truth and honesty to address these challenges and sustain democracy in Ghana and Africa.
Moreover, Mahama cautioned against handing over the Presidency to individuals associated with the current economic crisis, asserting that such a move could further exacerbate the country's woes. He pointed out that the stark contrast between seeking a visa and pursuing higher education underscores the adversity facing the nation, calling for a fundamental shift in leadership to address the issues at hand.
