- In a distressing turn of events, a total of eight Ghanaian nationals have tragically lost their lives in Mecca, swept by a devastating heat wave in Saudi Arabia. The recent casualties come after reports of two deaths on June 13, bringing the current death toll to eight.

- Spokesperson of the Hajj Board, Abdul Rahman Alhassan Gomba, confirmed these fatalities to Umaru Sanda during an interview on Accra based Citi FM.
Gomba revealed that the deceased pilgrims, while on their religious journey and residing in Madina, faced extreme temperatures surpassing 41 degrees Celsius.

- To address the soaring temperatures, Saudi authorities enforced a mandate requiring all pilgrims to remain inside their tents during the scorching peak hours between noon and 4 p.m. local time.

-The situation took a somber turn with emerging reports of fatalities among the pilgrims, initially involving individuals from Georgia. Subsequent investigations uncovered that Ghanaian nationals were also among the victims of the merciless heat wave.

-With the death toll steadily rising, reports gathered by Skyy News indicate that over 1,000 individuals have succumbed during this year's Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca.

The military in Burkina Faso says it has seized power and overthrown President Roch Kaboré.

The announcement was made on state television by an army officer, who cited the deteriorating security situation for the military takeover.

Mr Kaboré had faced growing discontent over his failure to stem an Islamist insurgency.

His whereabouts are unclear, but the officer said that all those detained were in a secure location.

E-Levy Has Been Approved Already _ Hon. Kyei Mensah Bonso.

Leader of the majority side of Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, claims the controversial E-Levy has already been approved by Parliament.

According to the Suame Member of Parliament (MP), what is outstanding of the E-Levy is for Parliament to give it a legislative backing.

His comments come on the back of threats by the minority side of the house that they will oppose the E-Levy, a tax policy they describe as being ‘draconian’ and ‘insensitive’.

But, addressing a capacity building workshop organized for the Majority caucus in Parliament and some Ministers of State, the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs said, the question of approval for the E-Levy has long been answered when Parliament took certain actions.

“The difficulty for me is when people are kicking against the e-levy when you know that in the adoption of the motion to approve the budget which contains the e-levy as a policy, we approved of that so it means that the first step has already been mounted. The receivables of the e-levy have been factored into the various estimates approved for all the sectors. That is the second thing we did. Thirdly, we encapsulated everything into the appropriations bill and passed it unanimously”, he explained.

What this means for the Majority Leader is that “you have approved of the E-Levy”.
