Whew. This one was tough to hit “publish” on. Writing this latest blog entry took me through every emotion: frustration, reflection, love, grief, and hope. As I processed all the commentary surrounding Essence Fest 2025, I kept coming back to the fact that representation, aspiration, and unity all matter!

In a world so quick to define Blackness by spectacle, I felt called to speak up for myself, for the young girls watching, the women becoming, and the elders.

This wasn’t easy to write, but it felt necessary. I hope you read it with your heart open.

We know we’ve been away for a minute. Social media trends move at the speed of a double tap, but trust we’re catching up. 💨📲

Our return begins with someone who’s mastered the art of pacing herself: Tabitha Brown. In a world that rewards hustle over healing, she’s choosing joy, setting boundaries, and reminding us that balance is revolutionary, like so…like that…

For Black women navigating entrepreneurship, capitalism, and community? It’s not always easy. Time will tell if Tab’s journey becomes a part of our survival guide. 🖤

Tabitha Brown and Target make for a corporate collab everyone dreams of, but she's having to balance the weight of things as many in her core audicence boycott the retailer.

This past election season, we did something bold. Instead of our usual posts, we took a pause to focus on something bigger—getting Gen Z and Millennials out to vote. It was all hands on deck here, turning our platform into a powerful voice encouraging our community to be part of a historic moment.

Now, we know the election didn’t exactly go in our favor, and that’s a hard pill to swallow. But if there’s one thing this season taught us, it’s that every single effort matters. The work we do, the community we’re building—it all comes down to showing up, one person at a time.

I want to give a big, heartfelt shoutout to Michael Chavez, our Graphic Designer. Michael’s artwork and illustrations took this campaign to a new level, resonating so deeply on TikTok and Instagram. His creative spirit and synergy brought out the heart of our mission, helping Cue The Culture stand out and stay true. I couldn’t ask for a better creative partner.

Yes, this election is just one wave. But the ocean is wide, and we’re still sailing. This work we’re doing? It’s so much bigger than one day, one post, or one vote. So for all of you who showed up and used your voice, thank you. Every single one of you is proof that together, our culture, our community, can make waves.

This is just the beginning, so rest up—because we’re ready to keep building.

Words cannot begin to express how grateful I am for Tina Bentley McNeal and her Arise The Future nonprofit organization for acquiring Cue The Culture. Being a part of this nonprofit organization and focusing on youth will allow for the foundation laid out by all of the past writers, graphic designers, artists, and photographers who have contributed to the past issues to become a part of a new, rich, and long-lasting legacy of new media journalism. Much like The Marathon, the celebration of influence(rs) continues.

We are thrilled to share that Cue The Culture Magazine has officially been acquired by Mississippi-based non-profit, Arise The Future! This move transforms Cue The Culture from a for-profit venture into a mission-driven platform eligible for grants, empowering us to grow as a ‘for teens, by teens....

Here , we believe that true artistry isn’t about collecting trophies—it’s about creating from the heart, pushing boundaries, and staying authentic. Beyoncé’s journey proves that success isn’t measured by nominations but by the impact of her work and the fearlessness to expand her craft. Snubbed or not, she continues to elevate the game. That’s what real artists do. 🎶👑

I’ve been in perimenopause hell and not doing much these days for the like but rather focusing on the love, so when THE campaign sees you, likes you and saves you…it’s a win that gets you out of bed and ready to try one mo-gain!

I’ve been growing organic on TikTok and it’s a grind, but this makes it all worth it.
