I had a few unexpected hours to myself, so I headed to Julian, California for a spontaneous solo day trip! Come along as I grab breakfast, explore downtown Julian, learn a little local history, browse some very interesting shops, and finish the afternoon with a local b**r.
Julian is a historic mountain town in San Diego County known for its Gold Rush history, apple pie, hiking, shops, breweries, wineries, and plenty more than I could possibly fit into one short visit.

This wasn't meant to be an everything-you-can-do-in-Julian guide. I only had a few hours to explore, making this more of a first look at what you can do during a quick visit — and by the end of the day, I'd already started a list for next time.

In May 2023, we drove from Billings, Montana through Bozeman and into Yellowstone National Park before continuing south through Grand Teton National Park — all in one incredible day.

Yellowstone became the world's first national park in 1872, and this was our first time experiencing it for ourselves. We entered through West Yellowstone, encountered bison along the way, explored the geothermal landscape of the Lower Geyser Basin and watched Old Faithful erupt.

And even though Memorial Day was only a few days away, winter wasn't quite finished. We found snowbanks along the road and Lewis Lake was still largely frozen as we made our way toward Yellowstone's South Entrance.

From there, our road trip took us directly into Grand Teton National Park. What was supposed to be mostly a drive through the park turned into one of the most memorable parts of the entire trip: dramatic mountain views, a double rainbow and what is still one of the most beautiful sunsets we've ever seen.

Rudy, Fritz and Winston were all along for the adventure, too. 🐾

Earlier this week I saw someone post in a group a pair of praying mantises mating with the warning that the "next part" was in a video in the comments.

Obviously, I watched. Sure enough the female is gnawing off the male's head at the neck. First time I've seen any photographic evidence of this, cause it's not something I ever just looked up, ya know?

Then a day later I see more photos of mating praying mantises; sometimes the male had his head attached, sometimes not. I think to myself, this is a lot of praying mantis photos in my feed this week....must be mating season.

Sure enough, I'm checking something on the front porch just now and I find.....

We visited the park in May 2023 during a cross-country road trip, long before we were regularly filming our travels for YouTube. That means this episode of From the Archives looks a little different from our newer adventures — a mix of photos, phone videos, and memories from a day spent exploring one of America's national parks.

This past April, we traveled back home to Pennsylvania for the 2026 Yuengling Light L***r Jogger in Pottsville! Join us for a weekend of running—or in my case, walking—b**r, food, family, and a few familiar places around our hometown.

Our trip starts at LAX with a visit to the United Club before flying east. Once in Pennsylvania, we head to America’s oldest brewery for the Yuengling Brewery Tour, packet pickup, and a taste of one of their limited-release Eagle Series b**rs before taking on the annual Yuengling Light L***r Jogger.

After the race, we grab lunch at Roma Pizza in downtown Pottsville, visit Pilger Ruh Brewing, and spend some time with family and friends. The next day, we head toward Hershey for a stop at Tröegs Independent Brewing before making our way back to the airport—and eventually home to two very excited dogs.
