Our dad left us for another woman. We had no money, no help—just my mom, doing her best to keep us fed. One day, she took me to the grocery store and quietly told me to slip a loaf of bread into my bag. I didn’t question it—I just did as she said.
But the storekeeper noticed. He caught us. A scene broke out—voices rising, people staring. My mom stood there, shaking, tears in her eyes, terrified the police would be called... that CPS would take her children away.
Then, out of nowhere, an older man stepped in. He spoke calmly but firmly, asking the storekeeper to treat my mother with dignity. Then, he handed over a $10 note—back then, it was a lot of money—and said, “Let them go.”
But he didn’t stop there. He gave my mom his number and told her to come by his office. He offered her a job—a way to stand on her own feet and provide for us.
That day changed everything. I still remember the look on my mom’s face… a moment of relief, of hope. I saw her smile—truly smile—for the first time in so long.
I’ve never forgotten that man’s kindness.

It was just another exhausting evening when my 10-year-old daughter came running to me—tears streaming down her cheeks.
“Mama… he made fun of my hair again.”
My heart shattered.
She had only recently recovered from cancer. The treatments had taken almost everything—her strength, her smile, and most of her hair. And now, she had to face this cruelty at school. A boy in her class had mocked her appearance.
I hugged her tightly and whispered, “Just ignore him, sweetheart.”
She nodded. She always listened. But the next day, it happened again.
I’m a single mother, juggling three jobs just to survive. Still drowning in debt from her medical bills. That night, when I saw her cry for something I couldn’t fix with medicine or money… I broke. I couldn’t protect her from the world. I sobbed—right in front of her.
That Sunday, I made a decision. I found out where the boy lived, marched to his house, and told his father everything. He listened silently, then politely asked me to wait in the living room.
Twenty minutes passed. I waited… growing angrier by the second.
“They’re the same,” I thought. The boy and the man. No apology. No shame.
But then…
I saw them walking toward us.
The boy—head completely shaved. And the father, with teary eyes, knelt down in front of my daughter.
“My son didn’t understand what you went through,” he said softly. “But I made sure he learns the weight of his words.”
The boy, holding his ears, said through tears, “I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
Both father and son stood there, humbled, asking for forgiveness.
That day, something beautiful began.
Now, every afternoon, my daughter comes home smiling.
“That boy,” she says, “he’s my best friend now. He always shares his lunch. He helps me with my books. He says I’m the strongest girl he knows.”
And I believe him.

His name is Tom. He has wild hair, wears a T-shirt with holes in it, jeans and flip flops. This was literally his wardrobe for his four years of high school. He is brilliant. Kinda odd in his worldview and perspective, but he is very, very bright.
He became a Christian during his junior year of high school when a fellow student shared her faith with him.
Across the street from the high school campus is a modern, conservative and active church. They work hard to develop ministries to the students, but that process is constantly changing and a challenge. One Sunday Tom decides to go visit the church. He walks in with no shoes, jeans, his T-shirt and wild hair. The service has just started so Tom starts down an aisle looking for a seat. The church is pretty full, and Tom doesn't want to invade anyone's territory. As he makes his way up the aisle, people are looking a bit uncomfortable, but no one says anything. Tom gets closer and closer to the front, and rather than bother anyone he just squats down on the carpet in front of the first row of chairs and makes himself comfortable.
Because this is so out of the norm, people who see Tom sitting up front on the floor become uncomfortable. About the time Tom gets settled in, the Pastor realizes that one of the Deacons who is sitting toward the back of the auditorium has gotten up from his seat and is making his way toward the front, and specifically toward Tom. He's a godly man, very dignified and respected, wearing a suit and tie as he walks with his cane, his silver hair neatly combed and his Bible under his arm. You can't blame him for what he is about to do. How can you expect a man of his age and of his background to understand some barefoot teenage kid with long hair, blue jeans and a T-shirt who has walked in and thinks it is somehow acceptable to just sit on the floor in front of everyone?
It takes what seems like a considerable time for the Deacon to reach the front where Tom is seated. The church remains utterly silent, except for the hushed whispers in the congregation. All eyes are fixed on the front. Everyone is relieved that this one senior adult Deacon has taken matters into his own hands. Even the Pastor is momentarily frozen with mixed emotions and thoughts coursing through his mind and heart. Then, unexpectedly, God manifests His presence.
When this elderly Deacon arrives at where Tom is seated, he very slowly and carefully kneels down beside Tom. He then places his cane and his Bible on the floor and sits down - to worship beside Tom so he won't be sitting alone. Everyone is moved with emotion. The Deacon doesn't utter a word; he simply extends his hand to shake Tom’s. In that moment, although nothing is said, much is communicated.
When the Pastor is able to speak, he simply says, "What I am about to preach, you will never remember. What you have just seen, you will never forget."

"Today I went out for lunch and I saw this elder lady coming from afar so I waited to hold the door for her, she was very thankful and sweet.
She then told the waitress, "table for one", so I waited and hesitated but then I walked over and said, "I'm eating by myself too, would you like to have lunch together?" She was ecstatic! Come to find out she spent the last decade living with her mom who recently passed away and her aunt who recently was put into a nursing home, so she has been having a hard time being alone. We had a wonderful talk, and she just kept smiling and saying thank you for listening to me, which made me smile too! 🙂
By far the best decision I've made all year!!! Her name is Delores, and we will be having lunch every Thursday from now on." ❤

Ben raised an impressive $1,150 in just one weekend....

This wasn’t his first time helping out. This was his third time running a lemonade stand to help the shelter.

His fundraising efforts began in 2019 when he visited the Idaho Humane Society with his grandmother. During that visit, he noticed that some of the cats didn’t have toys, and he wanted to help.

Ben plans to keep helping the shelter, which makes his mom very proud. She says he’s always had a kind heart, and his dedication brings her so much joy....

"I was at Walmart doing my weekly Friday shopping when the cashier says to me 'I see you in here all the time, your kids are always dressed cute, behaving and you just seem to have it all together' at the time I just thanked her and giggled because that's far from the truth but as I drove home there was more I wanted her to know about me.
I want her to know I battle a personality disorder everyday with anxiety and depression.
I want her to know that I can't always get myself up off the couch to feed them anything more than frozen pizza and cereal.
I want her to know that my son is late for school 3 out of 4 days because I regularly forget what day and time it is, despite the toddler size calendar in my kitchen.
I want her to know I have those 'I'm losing my ish' moments when I have to lock myself in the bathroom and cry.
I want her to know I wasn't always the most active mom because I use to work 80 hours a week and go to school full time and Jayce spent many days and nights with his grandparents.
I want her to know that I hadn't washed my hair in 3 days and my kids hadn't had a bath in 2.
I want her to know that I was trying to hurry out of there because I had forgot the diaper bag at home and Brenton was hungry.
I want her to know that once we got to the parking lot the "well behaved" child decided to stand up in the cart and I wasn't paying attention and barely caught him as he almost hit the concrete.
But most importantly I want her to know I don't have it together and may never have it all together. I don't know a mother out there that has it all together but everything we do is done with love for our children and that right there makes you the perfect mom and in our children's eyes we most definitely have it all together.
From one exhausted mom to another, you're doing great, have that melt down, let your kids eat the crap out of that cereal and take care of yourself always."

I was 22, single and didn’t want children – now I have triplets

Bethany Harris, 22, was young, free and single, when she discovered she was pregnant with triplets. She lives in Milton Keynes with her children, Hope, Athena and CJ, who were born in December 2021. A single mum, she works as a duty manager in a restaurant. Here's her story...

“I never planned to have children. My nieces and nephews were enough for me so when I got pregnant by accident with my partner Craig, it was a real shock. I was only 22, we hadn’t been together long and weren’t planning on having a family.

I booked a private scan at seven weeks and the sonographer found two babies. While I was getting over the shock of expecting twins, she found a third baby hiding! It felt like my heart stopped. I couldn’t believe it. I hadn’t taken anyone with me to the scan so I had no one to talk to about it.

I texted my mum saying: ‘It’s THREE!’ and she thought I was lying. Even when I showed her the scan pictures, she still couldn’t believe it. In fact, everyone I told needed telling at least twice. I’ve since found out that Craig’s side of the family has twins in it!

It was a huge shock for Craig. We’d never even lived together and although we tried to make the relationship work in those early weeks, we realised we weren’t meant to be together. We knew we’d end up resenting each other so, together we decided that, although we would co-parent, it would be better if we weren’t a couple and would live apart.

At first, the thought of having triplets was completely daunting but as the pregnancy progressed, I switched into a mode of: ‘You’re just going to have to deal with this.’ Although the consultant had mentioned reducing the pregnancy to one baby to reduce the risk of complications, I couldn’t face that decision. There was never any question that I wouldn’t try to give all three babies the best chance of life.

I was lucky in that I had a really easy pregnancy. Both girl babies were sharing a sac which made it more risky, but I was scanned every two weeks and all was well. I ended up in hospital at 26 weeks, only because Hope was lying awkwardly on my bladder, but I was fine.

I had a scheduled c-section at 34 weeks and two days, and after the birth I had to have a transfusion because of low iron levels. But the babies were ok and all born within four minutes of each other – Athena was born first weighing 4lbs 4oz, then Hope at 4lbs 5oz and finally Craig-junior (CJ) who was 4lbs 3oz.

The girls were on oxygen for the first day and CJ ended up in intensive care for a week as his lungs were struggling and he had jaundice. But they were out of hospital and home within three weeks.

I must be one of the lucky ones because I’ve found life with triplets surprisingly easy. Maybe it’s my age but I've been quite relaxed about it plus I have a lot of support around me. Even the doctors couldn’t believe how chilled out I was taking them home.

For the first month and a half, I put them to bed around 8pm then they’d wake at 11pm and 3am for feeds but I didn’t find falling back to sleep difficult. At first, I put them all in the same crib because they didn't like being apart, but then the girls started turning in their sleep so I separated them all. But they settled well.

"So, I was just at Walmart, buying school supplies for my kids, when this man started asking me questions (like why are you buying 150 notebooks).

I explained that I teach science and it wasn't worth the hassle of trying to get kids to bring their own notebooks, and that it takes away from time I could be teaching them. He then proceeded to pay my entire cart of classroom supplies.

I started crying and hugged him and asked for a picture. His son was watching the whole thing too. There are some really good people in this world."

Three years ago, I was that person who'd shove crumpled bills into tip jars without a second thought. Then I started working at this little coffee shop downtown, and everything changed when I saw how much those tips actually meant to us.
The owner had this plain glass jar sitting next to the register, and most customers would just toss in their loose change. I kept thinking there had to be a way to make people smile when they tipped, maybe encourage them to be a little more generous.
That's when I remembered my high school obsession with origami. I'd spent hours folding paper cranes and flowers, driving my mom crazy with the mess. But dollar bills? That was a whole different challenge.
I started with simple folds during slow shifts, using practice bills I'd printed out. The koi fish design kept calling to me - something about the way the scales on the dollar bill could become the fish's body seemed perfect. I found this incredible origami artist on the Tedooo app who specialized in money folding, and she walked me through some of the trickier techniques through messages.
The first real attempt took me three full days. I'd get halfway through and mess up a fold, have to start over with a fresh bill. My fingers cramped, I probably said some words my grandmother wouldn't approve of, but I was determined to make it work.
When I finally got it right, I placed it in our tip jar like it was a precious sculpture. The reaction was immediate - customers would stop mid-conversation to look at it, pull out their phones to take pictures, and suddenly our tip jar started filling up with bills instead of just coins.
Now I make a new one every few weeks, and regular customers actually ask what's coming next. That little koi fish taught me that sometimes the smallest gesture can ripple outward in ways you never expected.

Meet Basil, the garden center’s unofficial supervisor. Basil had wandered into the garden supply store one rainy afternoon and never left. With his plush tabby coat and a knack for napping in the most unexpected places, he quickly became a beloved fixture among customers and staff.
One sunny morning, Basil discovered the perfect resting spot a long plastic planter tray. Positioned among bags of compost and flower seeds, the tray was snug, warm, and just the right size for a cat of his…generous proportions. Basil climbed in, stretched luxuriously, and promptly fell into a blissful sleep, his belly on full display.
Shoppers passing by couldn’t resist snapping pictures. “Look at him!” they’d exclaim. “Is he for sale with the garden supplies?”
But Basil wasn’t just a decoration. He had a job to do or so he believed. Each day, he’d inspect deliveries by sitting on the freshest soil bags and test the comfort of new gardening tools by curling up on them. Employees swore their sales increased because of Basil’s calming presence. “People come in for plants and leave with pots, mulch, and a dozen photos of Basil.”
As seasons passed, Basil became a local celebrity. He was featured in a gardening magazine under the title "The Cat Who Grew a Community." Shoppers came from miles away, not just for plants, but to see the laid-back tabby who turned a simple garden center into the coziest place in town

"I was driving to the post office, and my route took me by a house with a table set up on the sidewalk and a sign that read 'FREE.' I turned around, parked my car alongside the road, and walked up to the family sitting next to the table.
As I approached, a young man asked if I needed a meal. My suspicions were correct. The table was filled with prepared meals. I told him, 'No, thank you.' But I was curious as to what they were doing. To be honest, I was getting a little choked up. A lady sitting behind the table told me they often prepare meals to give out on Sundays.
I was unbelievably touched by this act. I stammered and stumbled my way through an awkward thank you for their kindness. I tried to offer a contribution but the lady politely said no. I’m still not sure what compelled me to stop and talk to this family. I do know their act of kindness to their community will stay with me as an example of our better angels during these times."
