Supreme Actresses

Supreme Actresses: Iconic Black Women Who Revolutionized Hollywood by Marcellas Reynolds. We experienced laughter, love, and loss with these women.

From the author of Supreme Models comes the first-ever art book dedicated to celebrating Black actresses and exploring their experiences in acting. Through stunning photographs, personal interviews, short biographies, and career milestones, Supreme Actresses chronicles the most influential Black actresses who have worked in film, television, and theater. From Hattie McDaniel, the first actress of color to win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1939, to Dorothy Dandridge, the first actress of color to be nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards in 1954. And from Ethel Waters, the first African American actress to be featured on an American sitcom in 1950, to Cicely Tyson, the first African American star of a TV drama in 1963. The performances by these talented actresses are ingrained into our memories. But how did they begin their acting careers? Who were the first Black actresses who paved the way? What are their defining moments? What effects did racial prejudice have on their careers? Supreme Actresses remembers and celebrates the groundbreaking women who have been influencing culture for decades, reshaping the very standards of beauty in modern society.

Happy Juneteenth. ❤️✊🏾

Today we celebrate Black freedom, Black joy, and the legacy of Black excellence that has shaped every corner of this world. And on this day, I want to share a little of my own.

No one talks about the weight of being the first openly gay Black man on a major network reality series. The impossible pressure of representing Black maleness and Black gayness — perfectly, publicly, every single second. They just remember the mistake. Loving too freely. Trusting too deeply. Choosing people over a check.

Maybe I’d do it all again.

Supreme Models didn’t just give me a new chapter — it gave me the legacy I always wanted. Then came Supreme Actresses, the book that made me believe I can write, “I’m an author.” Then Supreme Models, the award-winning documentary that I fought so hard to conjure from a dream. Then Supreme Sirens, which was pure joy to write. Three books and a documentary in five years. All after fifty. ⭐️💫

Juneteenth has always been about the freedom to become who you were meant to be. I am living proof it is never too late to step into your purpose.

Thank you, God. For the gift. For the timing. For these stories and the iconic Black women living inside every page. This body of work is my offering — and I am endlessly, unapologetically proud of it.

All three books available now. DM me for signed copies. 🤎

Samara Joy at Blue Note LA and baby… I ASCENDED. 🎶✨

Her first-ever show = pure magic.

The voice? Sublime.
The vibe? Church.
The talent? Unreal.

Afterward, my friend and I went backstage and met her (yes, I tried to act cool 😭).

I gifted her Supreme Actresses 📚💋
…and she signed my copy of Supreme Sirens 🖊️✨

you are an angel.

A night of jazz, elegance, and Black excellence. 🤎🙏🏾⭐️
