Michael J. Fox spent countless hours rehearsing his guitar moves for the unforgettable performance scene in "Back to the Future," released in 1985. Long before cameras rolled on the “Enchantment Under the Sea” dance, he had to learn to convincingly play the guitar in a way that blended the spirit of 1950s rock with a jolt of 1980s showmanship. Fox, who was 24 at the time of filming, already had a packed schedule working on the sitcom "Family Ties," and his days often began at dawn and ended past midnight. He would finish shooting the series during the day, nap in his car or dressing room, then head over to the movie set to film through the night.
Director Robert Zemeckis and producer Bob Gale wanted the musical sequence to feel authentic, capturing Marty McFly’s exhilaration as he unleashed Chuck Berry–inspired riffs in front of a bewildered crowd. Fox had some experience with guitar but had never performed to that level of intensity. To prepare, he studied vintage footage of performers like Chuck Berry and Eddie Van Halen. The film’s music supervisor, Bones Howe, arranged coaching sessions so Fox could match his hand movements to the pre-recorded track. Though the actual audio in the movie was performed by professional guitarist Tim May, every chord Fox played on screen aligned with the soundtrack note for note.
In preparation for the scene, Fox practiced with a red Gibson ES-345 guitar that became an emblematic part of the film’s visual identity. He held the instrument for hours, memorizing the fi*****ng and gestures so that when the cameras captured his performance, it looked spontaneous. Crew members recalled that Fox’s enthusiasm never flagged even after grueling takes under hot stage lights. The production built the set at the Universal Studios backlot, dressing it with shimmering streamers and a drum kit bearing the name “Marvin Berry and the Starlighters.” Every detail was designed to transport viewers into the high school dance of 1955.
The shoot also required Fox to coordinate with the actors playing the band members, who pantomimed their parts while the music blared from hidden speakers. He often worked with the extras portraying the students, making sure their reactions matched the escalating energy of the solo. One of the more challenging elements involved Fox’s dynamic movements across the stage. The choreography blended vintage dance steps with sudden leaps and dramatic slides that had to be timed precisely to the music cues. Fox’s determination to capture Marty’s fearless spirit added an unforgettable layer to the performance.
The film’s signature moment occurs when Marty shouts, “I guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet, but your kids are gonna love it,” after playing the wild solo. That line, coupled with Fox’s uninhibited delivery, cemented the sequence as one of cinema’s most memorable time-travel scenes. Fox later shared in interviews that perfecting the guitar scene ranked among the most demanding aspects of the production. He carried a cassette player so he could listen to the track over and over between takes, refining every beat until he felt comfortable stepping in front of the crowd of extras.
While Fox became famous for his quick wit and boyish charm, this performance demonstrated his commitment to every detail of his craft. He transformed hours of careful preparation into a performance that looked effortless on screen. Elvis approached her and asked what she was looking at. The woman replied that she was simply daydreaming since she couldn't afford a new car.
Without hesitation, Elvis decided to buy a gold and white Cadillac for her. The woman, incredulous and overwhelmed with emotion, burst into tears of joy. Elvis paid for the car entirely from his own pocket and made sure all the necessary documents were in order. The rock star also told an aide to write the woman a cheque for an undisclosed amount to buy some clothes to go with the car.
This spontaneous act of generosity became one of the most famous episodes in Elvis's life, demonstrating his generous nature and his desire to help others.

When Elvis Presley featured in the 1957 MGM musical ""Jailhouse Rock,"" he was at the height of his career and the unquestioned King of Rock and Roll. A young actress named Jennifer Holden was one of his co-stars and was cast as his romantic interest. The Richard Thorpe-directed movie, which included songs by Mike Stoller and Jerry Leiber, went on to become one of the most famous rock musicals ever made.
Photographers regularly documented unscripted incidents during filming, such as this now-famous image of Elvis and Holden trying to jump into the air while giggling wildly. Instead of showcasing their young attractiveness and energy, the scene became a time of pure ecstasy as they laughed so hard they were barely able to stand. Elvis, who is well-known for his charm and lighthearted demeanor on set, subsequently remarked that they couldn't stop laughing, thus it took a lot longer to record the scene than anticipated.

Even though she isn't as well-known as some of his other leading ladies, Jennifer Holden had a moment with the King that will never be forgotten. The image of Elvis Presley laughing on the set of ""Jailhouse Rock"" embodies the essence of a young Presley who, in spite of his notoriety, never lost the capacity to find joy in the little things.
