Spider-Man: Brand New Day — 5/10 🥱📉

Honestly? A massive, overhyped disappointment.

The movie is completely carried by nostalgia crutches. The fact that Marvel crammed in so many heavy references to Tobey Maguire’s movies like giving Peter organic webs, having MJ fall off a high place AGAIN, and Peter awkwardly practicing his new webs makes it painfully obvious that even Marvel Studios knows Tobey’s era was better. When your entire script relies on copying 20-year-old plot points, you’ve ran out of ideas.

Strip away the forced cameo hype, and you’re left with budget VFX, lazy writing, and forced emotional scenes that completely fell flat.

Tobey carried the true weight and struggle of Spider-Man on his own. Tom Holland still needs nostalgic callbacks and guest stars just to make his movies watchable.

Easily one of the weakest MCU entries to date. Raise your standards, people. 🗑️

Imagine making a movie where a "Universal Inhibitor" turns OFF Jean Grey's powers, but Spider-Man can still use his?💀

Do Marvel writers even know what the word "Universal" means, or do they just throw science buzzwords at the wall and hope casual fans don't notice?

They had a goldmine opportunity to explore Peter’s spider mutation under suppression, but instead gave us lazy writing and bad logic. Easily a 5/10 movie. Basic logic has left the MCU. 📉

I just got back from the theater, and frankly, I’m shocked more people aren't talking about how terribly written Frank Castle was in this movie.

The Punisher is supposed to be a stoic, stoic-level psychological force. In Brand New Day, they literally turned him into a comic-relief sidekick. Having him crack jokes, team up with Spider-Man, and refrain from his usual methods completely destroys the thematic weight of his arc.

It’s obvious Marvel toned him down to fit the PG-13 Disney formula because they were scared real dark storytelling would scare away casual audiences. Coming off The Punisher: One Last Kill, this just felt like a massive step backward in narrative quality.

If you actually think this was a good portrayal of Frank Castle, you clearly don't understand basic character consistency or high-level writing. They made him soft just to appease mainstream viewers, and it killed the whole vibe of the movie.

4/10. Do better, Marvel. 🥱
