Choosing the right collaborators is one of the most important creative decisions you can make.
Meet ‘Grace’ choreographer and champion pole dancer Grace Holiday. She gave so much to the performance that I named the piece in her honor. This is a single continuous take captured by Vince Argentine and his team at Rouge MoCap. The nature of the performance meant that the sensors had to be glued to her skin. Knowing that we only had a limited number of takes before the sensors fell off and Grace exhausted herself we managed to nail it on the second take.
Rouge Mocap is open for business operating under COVID 19 social distancing guidelines.

Real-time UE4 Digital Character

Actor Luke Cook's performance re-targeted onto a real-time UE4 digital character running on a single Nvidia 1080. Captured with Faceware Tech, Inc. and NANSENSE Motion Capture. We're obsessed with technology and perfecting our pipeline, but audiences most likely doesn't know how something was made and could probably care less. As a screenwriter I always ask, did it engage with them? Did it connect? Did they feel something? Were they moved? Easy to forget when the technology is so awesome!

UE4 Navy SEALs Real-Time Virtual Poduction

This is a UE4 VR scene we created a few years back that Matt Workman recently did a fantastic job re-lighting and capturing the scene with a virtual camera. Creating a movie using UE4 radically changes what sort of stories you can tell. If you create one character you can create an army. Under cover of darkness with sharp editing and camera work, your audience will not realize that this squad of US Navy SEALs is in fact just one dude. We could’ve mocaped one SEAL and got him to do nine passes, but we settled on three making three passes to give us less continuity headaches. Work From Home Virtual Production

Matt Workman does an incredible job in shooting this test scene with us and in breaking down how he did it and what he learned. This masterclass in real-time filmmaking provides the road-map to the future of filmmaking. This is my first "Remote Virtual Production" collaboration with MacInnes Studios. They created this as a Virtual Reality project, including the digital humans and peformance capture. I did the Virtual Production (camerawork, lighting, and capture) in my home studio to create a linear 2D trailer.
