This groundbreaking five-part series shows American history through a new lens and could not be more timely, given this current moment in history. We are honored to have co-produced this series with Center for Asian American Media, WETA, and ITVS.

Asian Americans will premiere on PBS May 11 (Episodes 1-2) and May 12 (Episodes 3-5). Please check your local listings for additional dates/times. It will also be streaming on PBS and Amazon Prime.

A.C.L.U., Citing Bias Against Women, Wants Inquiry Into Hollywood’s Hiring Practices

Glad to see the issue of gender bias in Hollywood being seriously raised! We've been supporting female directors, including Jill Soloway (mentioned in the article), Grace Lee and Laura Gabbert as they've edited their films at Flash Cuts.

The organization will ask state and federal agencies to look into what it calls rampant and intentional gender discrimination in recruiting and hiring of female directors.

VC Board Member, editor, and Flash Cuts Editorial founder Walt Louie cut together this "In Memoriam" video, honoring all the people who have worked with VC who are no longer with us, but never forgotten. Walt has been a Board Member with us since the 90s, and we are glad he's continuing to serve on our Board. "VC has always been the home base for so many media makers, and as much as things change, it has continued to evolve and adapt. It's a vital link for so many who have passed through, and will continue to help others yet to come." Continue celebrating our #PastForward 50th anniversary! We are delighted to share personal messages from our community of supporters who have made the last 50 years of VC memorable. Please consider making a donation to our #VC50 Celebration Campaign so that we can continue our work for another 50 years! vcmedia.org/vc50
LEAP - Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics Celebration Kick-off is this week! Today we are spotlighting our second Community Award Honoree, Flash Cuts Editorial! As part of LEAP's Virtual Kick-off, we are holding an #HonoreeSpotlight Q&A, where our guests and community can ask questions to our Honorees to get to know their story! Flash Cuts Editorial was established in 2006 by Walt Louie, a long time commercial and trailer editor, who wanted to give individualized support and care to his clients. He designed and masterminded a creative space that would foster community for independent filmmakers in Los Angeles. As a long time board member of the National Asian American Television Association, now CAAM (Center for Asian American Media) based in San Francisco and Visual Communications (VC) in Los Angeles, the vision for Flash Cuts was to support filmmakers with resources and physical space to gather and work. Eurie Chung, Flash Cuts’s first employee, grew the company to take on documentary projects and now provides a range of services to filmmakers, from equipment and edit system rentals, production through post-production. Submit your questions to http://ow.ly/Xahc50ADjuk, to be asked to Flash Cuts', Eurie Chang, at our July 23rd event! A special thank you this year's Celebration Sponsors, and LEAP Annual Contributors; without their support we wouldn't be able to get together and celebrate Asian and Pacific Islander Leaders!
We're getting closer to LEAP's Celebration Kick-off, to introduce everyone to the people that make LEAP’s in person events beautiful and community centered. We are excited to share their stories of leadership in our communities. Today, we want to introduce you to our partners and friends over at Far Bar! Don Tahara, owner of Far Bar Little Tokyo is a long-standing supporter of the Little Tokyo community, and LEAP community partner and friend. Don has partnered with LEAP for well over a decade now, and is one of our long-standing friends. Don and Far Bar stepped up as a leader in support of the Little Tokyo community, particularly around Go Little Tokyo's Community Feeding Programs! Hear more about Don’s story as a small business owner and views of community and family in Little Tokyo! Join us in getting to know all our Community Partners as we kick off the 2020 LEAP Annual Leadership Awards Virtual Celebration Series on July 23!
