My love for horses spans generations, and it’s all because of my dad, Philip. 🐴✨True to his name—which means “lover of horses”—and his birth sign (Year of the Horse), I only realized recently that he sent us to writing lessons so that we could ride with him as we grew up
it brought back a flood of memories: starting out at age 5 taking lessons with my mom and sister at Rhonda’s Ranch in the Mt. Diablo Bay Area, learning to groom ponies at summer camps, and eventually racing barrels and riding trails at R-Wild Horse Ranch in Redding through high school. riding the trails and connecting with horses was one of our family’s favorite weekend, activities
Though it’s a side of me I never pursued professionally it’s still a dream to me to be able to ride in a movie or TV show in a western!
My dad’s own journey started in 1947, when he was just a 5-year-old boy riding to safety from China to Taiwan, helping my grandfather—who served under Chiang Kai-shek—evacuate women and children after the war. When he got separated from the group, he trusted his horse to carry him safely back to camp.
On this Memorial Day, I honor my grandfather’s service and dedicate this ride to my dad. Thank you for inspiring me to ride so we could share those trails together growing up. Happy Memorial Day. 🕊️🇺🇸
