A little Behind the Icon moment in Paris. 🇫🇷✨

We stopped by Galerie de l’Instant in the Marais to see Marilyn: Portrait of a Radiant Child, featuring the beautiful photography of Sam Shaw. The exhibit includes rare and iconic images of Marilyn taken between 1954 and 1958, and is presented in connection with the Shaw Family Archives—including some of those wonderfully candid moments Sam captured because Marilyn trusted him. Today we celebrate the extraordinary Lena Horne — a groundbreaking artist whose beauty, elegance, intelligence, and courage helped change both Hollywood and America.

Lena Horne was not only one of the great performers of her generation, but also a powerful voice in the Civil Rights Movement during a time when speaking out came with enormous personal and professional risk.

Like Marilyn Monroe, Lena understood what it meant to navigate fame while challenging the limitations society placed on women. Both women, in very different ways, helped move culture forward.

Lena Horne also attended the famous 1962 “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” celebration at Madison Square Garden — the unforgettable night where Marilyn Monroe performed for John F. Kennedy in one of the most iconic moments in entertainment history.

And while Marilyn is often remembered for glamour and mystery, her support of artists like Ella Fitzgerald and her willingness to quietly challenge racial barriers behind the scenes helped move the needle forward during an important cultural moment in America.
