Homemade Tomato Sauce (Simple and Flavorful)
Perfect for pasta, pizza, lasagna, or to freeze for later use.
π§Ύ Ingredients:
β’ 1 kg of ripe tomatoes (Roma or plum type)
β’ 1 medium onion, chopped
β’ 2 garlic cloves, minced
β’ 2 tablespoons olive oil
β’ Salt to taste
β’ Black pepper to taste
β’ 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to reduce acidity)
β’ Fresh basil leaves (optional)
π©βπ³ Instructions:
1. Prepare the tomatoes:
Wash the tomatoes, make a cross cut at the bottom of each, and boil them for 1β2 minutes. Transfer to cold water, peel the skin, cut in half, and remove the seeds. Chop them.
2. SautΓ©:
In a pan, heat the olive oil and sautΓ© the onion until translucent. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
3. Add the tomatoes:
Add the chopped tomatoes. Season with salt, pepper, and sugar if needed. Let it simmer over low heat for 30 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
4. Finish:
If you prefer a smoother sauce, blend it with an immersion blender or in a regular blender. Add basil leaves at the end, if desired.
π§ Storage:
Let it cool and store in sealed jars. Keeps up to 5 days in the fridge or up to 3 months in the freezer.
