I feel like the a** hole and a little petty but am I really?
I have a corner house in a subdivision. I've lived here for 12 years. The property was surveyed when I bought it. I have always been aware of my property lines. About 5 years ago, I decided to put up a fence. When the holes were originally dug for the fence posts, my neighbor complained that I was encroaching on her property. I was a little perplexed because I knew i wasn't. But, I was trying to build the fence and appease her so I covered the holes and went to the city and got the plots that show our property boundaries. The holes were dug again well inside my property. She was told the plots were used. My neighbor still made comments about me being on her property. At this point, I was over it because I knew not only was I not on her property, I built the fence and excluded a very small area of my yard to suit her. Fast forward several years later. We are rebuilding the fence because the picket fence didn't hold up well. My neighbor comes outside to my fiance and ask him to stop working on the fence as she believes the fence is in her yard and she's having her property surveyed. She said she thought since we were rebuilding, now would be the perfect time to fix this once and for all. The survey shows not only am I on my property, but I have excluded more of my yard than I thought from the fenced in area. My fiance continues rebuilding the fence which now includes moving the posts to utilize the entire yard up to 2 inches of the property line. My fiance says he would have gladly moved if it were on her property. If she would not have done the survey and clearly outlined the boundaries, we would have rebuild on the existing posts. Am I a petty Betty a**hole for moving the post as a result of her survey or did she bring this about by trying to be queen on the hill and claim too much land?

After enduring years of abuse, Cara Brookins made the brave decision to take her children and leave her second marriage, though she was left emotionally shattered. Determined to rebuild her life and create a safe haven for her family, Cara came up with an extraordinary plan: she would build her own house, with no prior experience, relying on nothing but online tutorials.

In 2007, after being evicted from the home she shared with her soon-to-be ex-husband in Bryant, Arkansas, she took action. With $20,000 for a piece of land and a $150,000 construction loan, Cara began her journey. She turned to YouTube to teach herself how to lay a concrete slab, frame walls, install plumbing, and more. Her four children, ranging in age from 2 to 17, worked alongside her every step of the way.

Her 15-year-old son, Drew, helped with the planning, while her 11-year-old daughter, Jada, fetched water from a neighbor’s pond to mix concrete by hand. Cara recalls how impossible it felt at times, balancing a job and spending long nights at the construction site with her children. Despite pixelated videos and countless obstacles, they pushed through.

On March 31, 2009, Cara and her kids moved into their 3,500-square-foot, five-bedroom home, which she proudly named Inkwell Manor—symbolizing her dreams as a writer.

Cara’s incredible journey shows the power of resilience and the strength that can come from starting over, even when the odds seem impossible ❤️🏠.

Out for an evening adventure with my centenarian friend Mike Fremont, always full of pizzazz!
At 101 1/2 years young, Mike is keeping his routines of pull-ups in the evening, humor, vegan foods, and covering more miles on foot than anyone his age.
We found about a dozen pawpaws, the largest fruit from the continental United States, and enjoyed sharing them with people we met along the trail.
Mike shared with me for the first time ever that he wants to write a book. I’m certain it would truly impact thousands of people.
Later, Mike and I joined his wife Marilyn for dinner. We ate Japanese noodles, colorful fresh vegetables with tofu, edamame, miso soup, and oranges for dessert. Marilyn and Mike just completed the 8-mile Paddlefest canoeing the Ohio River in August. Mike was also beaming with pride to share that his wife Marilyn was one of ten nominated for Cincinnati Enquirer’s Woman of the Year for her years of volunteerism with non-profit environmental organizations.
As sensei, Mike always has great insights for life, carrying a couple more into Bigs Backyard World Championship along with the positive energy.

This Mexican mechanic saved the Ferrari 375 at the 1954 La Carrera Panamericana which was one of the most demanding endurance races in history.
Umberto Maglioli was leading the fourth stage of the race in his Ferrari 375 before his engine started to leak oil through the crankcase. He had to stop in the middle of nowhere without any technical support for his car. His chances of finishing the race were near-zero.
Maglioli was lucky enough to stop beside a small workshop called “El Milagro” where he met Mexican mechanic Renato Martinez. Renato confirmed the oil leak and was able to provide Maglioli with a temporary solution:
He grabbed a bucket and a big bar of soap while he gave Maglioli three bottles of Coke and said "While you drink your Coke I will repair your car."
Martinez started to rub the bar of soap onto the crankcase. The soap melted and created a paste that sealed the leak hole. Soap cuts through the oil film and adheres to the metal in the crankcase.
Amazed by Martinez ingenuity Maglioli pulls out a small Rolleiflex camera to capture the moment and to immortalise Renato and his "El Milagro" garage. Umberto Maglioli finished the race in the first place.
After the race, Martinez was mailed the photograph Maglioli had taken and it read "Renato, The Mexican Miracle that helped Ferrari." signed by a man named Enzo Ferrari. .

"19 years ago, Scott, all 5 kids and I took a trip to Omaha. Kenny was 10, Todd was 8, Kevin 5, Ryan 2, and Lisa was 6 months old. We took a day and went over to visit Scott's Aunt and Uncle who lived in Omaha, in their beautiful new home. When we pulled up, the exterior said to me, "this is what dreams are made of". As his Aunt gave us a tour of their home, I just remember thinking how amazing it would be to have such a beautiful home, full of rooms and bathrooms and a huge kitchen that screamed to be full of family and fun, but what stuck out the most in my mind and sparked a completely different envy than just the size of the house, was the vacuum lines that remained in the carpet in the formal dining room. As we strolled into the dining room, I remember thinking to myself, 'oh my gosh! Her vacuum lines are still in her carpet probably a week or more after she vacuumed!! What I wouldn't give to clean my house and have it stay magazine perfect for more than 5 minutes!!' I couldn't wait for the day that I would be able to do that and not have it messed up by sticky little finger prints on the perfectly waxed dining table, or Legos hiding under the table, or walking in to discover Ryan's latest art creation had so carefully been designed on the wall with crayons.
Here's what I didn't know at that time, (and somewhere my mind couldn't even go), that to have all of this picture perfect cleanliness, the kids would have to be gone. You see, I wanted those things because the everyday struggles of 5 loads of laundry, toys everywhere, mouths to feed, meals to prepare, beds to make were overwhelming to me, and the beauty of a pristine home was something only dreams were made of. Hell it took me 20 minutes in each room just to find the floor before I could vacuum it. I never grasped (no matter how bad I wanted vacuum lines to stay in my carpet) that my kids would one day grow up and leave. That thought doesn't exist in a young mothers mind, it's just the things that old ladies talked about, and the endless reminders they tried to give me that "it all goes by so fast."
Then one day I woke up, went to clean my house, carefully placed vacuum lines in my carpet, looked at my beautiful dinning table with a perfect wax coating and zero finger prints and realized it would stay that way for days.....and that's when I realized that vacuum lines are lonely. That Legos and dirty clothes and mouths to feed and backpacks to get ready are sometimes very overwhelming, but they're never, ever lonely and that what the old ladies had been telling me was true! That the Legos slowly disappeared without me ever noticing. They were replaced by video games, and then football gear and then by empty bedrooms waiting for a visit home from college or life. That the loads of laundry gradually got smaller, the dirty dishes were less and the endless treasures of Pokemon cards, or rock collections all disappeared. Everything sits magazine ready in my home now and I appreciate and love this time of my life, I only wish I had known the cost of vacuum lines, because then I surely wouldn't have wanted this day to come as fast as it did.
To the mothers with vacuum lines who miss their children everyday, and to the young mothers who struggle through the mountains of laundry and responsibility. Cherish your children, their messes and stresses and the hell they put you through as teenagers, and trust me, vacuum lines are overrated." 😉

Nat King Cole was an enormously popular crooner, earning $4,500 a week in Las Vegas in 1956. He headlined at the whites-only Thunderbird Hotel, where he wasn't allowed to venture beyond the showroom and the cook's resting area behind the kitchen. Cole's road manager was given a room in the hotel because he was white, but the high-paid feature attraction had to find other accommodations. He regularly stayed in a rooming house on the West Side.

Frank Sinatra was a great fan of Cole's. While performing at the Sands, Sinatra noticed that Cole almost always ate his dinner alone in his dressing room. Sinatra asked his valet, a black man named George, to find out why. George explained the facts to Frank. "Coloreds aren't allowed in the dining room at the Sands."

Sinatra was enraged. He told the maitre d' and the waitresses that if it ever happened again, he'd see that everyone was fired.
The next night, Sinatra invited Cole to dinner, making his guest the first black man to sit down and eat in the the Garden Room at the Sands. .

"My heart is so happy. He still isn’t able to coordinate enough to walk well, but he wasn’t able to bear any weight on his back legs yesterday and today he can.
The lump on his back is from subcutaneous fluids, so no need to worry about that.
He is making such great progress. We are all thrilled!"

This fine young man came into my life 5 years ago. He Walked up behind me with a hair cut that was 5 months past due and a big hole in his shirt & one sock on his foot. He tugged on the back of my shirt and said, sir can you teach me how to play football. I responded- son I teach a lot more then just how to play football. His response was OK. I then said son where is your mom and dad at football isn't cheap? He responded My mom died and I don't know where dad is, but my Auntie takes care of me. God spoke to me that second and told me to take care of him in every way. God said to me "be a Shepard". Not knowing that day The lord gave me another son who would change me and him for ever. I have never been more proud to sit at a 8th grade promotion as I was today. I reflected on the 4 national titles and all the state championships we won together. But I reflected most on how Jesus dropped him into my life like a stork from the sky and how far he has come since that day. God gave him the best Aunt you can ever ask for. I Love you Marquise! And the Lord gave us 4 more years of HS football together.

My oldest has his first firefighter shift tonight! It has been a dream in the making since he was 3!

These were the first fire trucks I bought him to play with! We are so very proud of him! The journey to get here and find his passion while long and tiresome was worth every second! Praying for an uneventful shift! ❤️ .
