Thought of the Day…”IT CAN BE HARD TO SEE BUT KEEP LOOKING…GOOD PEOPLE DO EXIST”

Today I watched a video that was on Instagram that brought tears to my eyes. A young man had become wealthy and his purpose for wanting money was to actually do for others that so needed help. He would go up in the grocery store and seeing older people who were obviously having difficulty buying their groceries he would step in and tap his credit card and pay their grocery bill never saying a word. These people were surprised and taken off guard and so grateful. You literally could see the gratitude and love coming from their eyes.

It’s a problem today with the cost rising . I work and I worry about supporting myself and paying the increases. My own grocery bill is up about 30%, I have recieved notices from my health insurance and the prescription plan went up 100%, literally double and the deductible was raised before they start to pay. My supplemental insurance , car insurance, house insurance have all increased as have the gas, lights, cable and garbage bills. Yet some will tell you our economy is doing great. Well…I go by reality for me and that’s just not true.

So to see someone of wealth help seniors really touched me. I had a conversation recently on this page when the lottery was over a billion dollars. One lady stated she would buy herself a mansion in Florida and keep her home there also, buy a penthouse somewhere else and then another home in Europe and go on trips and buy her children all homes and on an on. While I can see spoiling yourself a bit I feel much differently about what I would do and I told her what I would do. She came back fiercely at me. I said if I won I would buy myself a dream home, not homes, but I would start a foundation and work in it that would help and do good for needy people. Her reply to me, “there are enough free loaders, left them fend for themselves”.

Needless to say I had to pray on that one and for her and not respond. I truly believe in my heart that we were all put here for a purpose and that is to live our life with a purpose of doing for our families, ourselves and for others. I know that my examples in my faith were those ideologies of kindess, love and helping the least of these. I don’t know who this man was in the video I watched but that is the type of people we should honor and support and not the dishonorable who work only for greed.

Do something to help someone today….you will reap the rewards.

Three weeks ago, this kid from down the street - maybe 12 years old - knocked on my door looking nervous as hell. His mom's birthday was coming up, and he'd heard from neighbors that I make custom sweaters. He wanted to order one for her.
"She's always cold," he said, showing me a picture on his phone. "And she really likes purple."
Sweet kid, right? So I quoted him my usual price - $85 for a custom cardigan. His face just... fell. Started digging through his pockets, counting crumpled bills and loose change. Had maybe $23 total.
"I don't have enough," he said quietly. "But I really want to make her happy. She's been working two jobs since Dad left, and she never buys anything for herself."
Y'all, my heart just broke.
"What if we work out a trade?" I asked. "I'll make the sweater, and you can pay me back by doing something you're good at."
His whole face lit up. "I'm really good at making crafts! I could make you something!"
So I spent two weeks knitting this gorgeous purple cardigan - used the softest yarn I had, added little cable details, made it perfect. I even ordered some special buttons from a crafter on the Tedooo app (where I also have my crafting store) because I wanted it to be extra special. When I gave it to him, he was bouncing with excitement talking about how surprised his mom would be.
I honestly forgot about the "payment" part. The kid was so happy, that was enough for me.
But then yesterday morning, I found THIS on my doorstep.
A handmade pinecone bouquet. Each cone painted in the most beautiful colors, carefully arranged in a vintage-style bucket. There was a note: "Thank you for making my mom cry happy tears. She loves her sweater and wears it every day. I collected these pinecones from our woods and painted them with colors that remind me of how happy she looked. I hope you like them."
I'm not exaggerating when I say this is the most beautiful payment I've ever received. This kid spent hours collecting pinecones, probably used his own allowance money for paint and supplies, and created something that's now the centerpiece of my front porch.
Sometimes the best transactions aren't about money. Sometimes they're about one person's joy inspiring another person's creativity. And sometimes a 12-year-old can teach you that the most valuable currency is love made visible.
That sweater cost me maybe $20 in materials and a few hours of my time. But this arrangement? This is priceless
