We won a Webby! Xyla Foxlin and the Fight for Pilot Mental Health is the official winner in the Social Impact category for this year’s awards. Woo hoo!
Back in early 2025, Long Haul Films took on the assignment to help aviation and engineering creator Xyla Foxlin tell the story of how she lost her medical certificate and her ability to fly after opening up online about her experience with birth control.
Through directing and producing the piece, we got a front row seat to just how outdated and restrictive the FAA’s approach to mental health still is, and how much fear it creates for pilots who might otherwise seek care. We also got to watch Xyla, alongside the team at Pilot Mental Health Campaign, push forward anyway, taking this all the way to Washington and refusing to let it quietly slide.
This month, we found out we won a Webby, and that the Mental Health in Aviation Act is heading to the Senate for a vote. Wild to see those two things land at the same time!
This whole project has been a real reminder of why we do what we do at Long Haul Films. Standing up for what you believe in, and putting something honest out into the world can ripple in ways you never quite expect. Storytelling creates impact. When we channel our energy towards creating positive change, huge things can happen.
