Behind-the-Scenes Memoir Reflection
A glimpse into Chapter 8: The moment the foundation cracked.

Here is a short excerpt from the middle section of the book I am polishing this week:

“People love to tell you that time heals all wounds. But they skip the part where time also leaves you sitting on the floor of a quiet kitchen, staring at a broken glass, wondering how you are supposed to piece your entire life back together when you don’t even recognize the person in the mirror.”

In my earlier drafts, I tried to skip past this heavy, messy middle. It felt too uncomfortable to leave the reader sitting in the dark with me. But while editing today, I realized that you cannot appreciate the sunrise unless you understand exactly how dark the night was.

So I am leaving the kitchen-floor scene in the book. It’s hard to read, but it’s the truth about how the rebuilding process started.

"It is safe to outgrow a belief system that no longer aligns with your lived truth. Questioning is not a sign of being lost; it is a sign of becoming."

Growth is a sacred journey of shedding layers that no longer serve your soul's highest purpose. Sometimes, the structures, belief systems, or paths we once walked were simply stepping stones that brought us to the present moment.

If you find yourself questioning what you once held as absolute truth, please know you are not lost. Your spirit is simply expanding. You are awakening to a deeper alignment and to honoring the divine evolution of your true self.

Love is not a destination, nor is it merely a shelter from the storm. It is the long, winding road itself, and the most profound teacher we will ever encounter.

It does not lecture from a podium; instead, it whispers its truths in the quiet spaces between heartbeats.

Through love's grace, we learn empathy and learn how to carry another’s hidden sorrows as gently as our own.

To love is to commit to a lifelong education of the heart. We enter its gates seeking comfort, but we remain because it stretches our souls, carving out a greater capacity within us to be fully human.

Memoir Revisions Behind-the-Scenes:
The Power of 'I Don't Know'

This moment almost didn't make the book...

I used to think a good memoir needed answers and explanations. I wanted to explain the lessons and show a clear arc from pain to wisdom. I thought it needed neat conclusions.

Then my beta reader said: 'I trust you MORE when you say, "I don't know." That changed everything for me. So, I'm adding phrases I used to edit out, such as:
'I still don't understand why...'
'Maybe it was intuition. Maybe it was just luck.'
'Some days I believe one thing. Other days, something else.'
'I don't know if I'll ever have an answer.'

These used to feel like WEAKNESSES in my writing. Now I see they're the strongest parts because they're the most honest.

I realize readers don't need me to have everything figured out. They need me to tell the truth about what it's really like to survive something hard.

And the truth is: I don't have all the answers. I'm still learning. Some questions will never be resolved. And I’m okay with that. Saying that out loud doesn't diminish the story. It deepens it.

"I honor the younger version of myself who longed for safety, and I promise to protect her now."

Lately, I’ve been reflecting on what it truly means to heal. Too often, we rush past our old hurts or pretend the vulnerable parts of our past don't exist. But real growth happens when we turn around, look back at the kid we used to be, and offer them the safety they always deserved.

To the younger version of me: I see how hard you tried, how scared you were, and how much you wanted to feel secure. You don't have to carry that weight anymore. I’ve got us now.

Healing isn't about changing the past; it’s about changing how we treat ourselves in the present. Today, I am choosing to be my own protector. 🤍
