the Springboks have been dealt three fresh injury blows with back-rower Jean-Luc du Preez being omitted from the squad ahead of the Tests against Argentina after sustaining an injury in training ahead of the Eden Park clash, while full-back Aphelele Fassi and lock Lood de Jager exited the pitch early on in the fixture in Wellington.

The injuries to Du Preez, De Jager and Fassi add to the growing list of absentees, including Gerhard Steenekamp, Frans Malherbe, Salmaan Moerat, and Kurt-Lee Arendse, who have been on the injury list for different durations in the last few months. As well as loose forwards Cameron Hanekom and Elrigh Louw.

England’s world player of the year, Ellie Kildunne, is expected to be ready to play against France in the Women’s Rugby World Cup semi‑final on Saturday after missing the 40-8 quarter-final win against Scotland on Sunday.

The full-back did not play against Scotland because of concussion protocols, but afterwards the Red Roses head coach, John Mitchell, said: “We have a clean bill of health I think. Ellie is back running, back into collision work and she is going good.”

World Rugby have confirmed that Berthoumieu will play no further part in the tournament after an Independent Foul Play Review Committee reviewed her actions in the quarter-final against Ireland.

Berthoumieu is suspended for the remainder of France’s Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 matches, their upcoming semi-final against England and either the Bronze or Final match on 27 September, and a further 10 matches in her domestic championship. She will be free to play after 1 March 2026.
