In 2020, a performer in a giant bear costume walked onto the stage of The Masked Singer and started rapping "Baby Got Back."
Nobody in the audience guessed who was inside. For more than a decade, Sarah Palin had been parodied, debated, and picked apart on national television. This time, she stepped into the spotlight on her own terms, in a costume, doing something no one would ever expect from a former vice presidential nominee.
When the mask finally came off, the judges and the audience reacted in pure disbelief. For one night, the woman whose name had become shorthand for political battle was simply someone having fun and laughing at herself.
It was a side of her most viewers had never seen, and it reminded people that public figures are often more surprising than their headlines.
Why she said yes to that costume, and what happened backstage after the reveal, remains the part of the story few fans know.
