Does anyone have any info about Metro? This note says 6 jokers but sadly, no jokers to be found.

Baking Bakelite 😅

Well, after a week of UVA lights on these TYL replacement tiles, I’m calling uncle.

The tiles appear slightly darker than when they first went in. But the lights were a pain to constantly recharge daily.

After a week of the box, I baked all the non matching tiles in 285-degree toaster oven for nearly 40-50 minutes. I babysat them, turning the tiles every 6-8 minutes.

I’m calling in this endeavor. Unless the tiles continue to darken and get close to matching, this set may be sacrificed into orphan service.

Do I try baking again another day? Hesitant to go any higher in temp.

Look at these interesting “wan” tiles!

Is this simply a non-native trying to copy the sinogram 萬 ?

Wan translates to ten thousand — rooted in Chinese currency. Makes sense since mahjong was a betting/gambling game!

This term seems simple enough but somewhere along the way, it was deemed “character” and then colloquially shortened to “crak” in NMJL cards.

Today’s experiment: Replace missing tiles with stickers.

The Mahjong Maven set is missing an East tile. So I scanned the other three tiles with a little box over them to block out light. Then chose the “best” of the three images.

I played around a bit with printing the white background color vs using the white of the glassy sticker paper.

I like living in the weeds of details but since I’m not the one who will be playing with it, I will just send all the stickers to the new owner to decide for themselves.

If you’ve ever wondered why each set takes so long to work on… welcome to my brain 😂 That is, when I’m not sidetracked by something else.

I believe these are Mahjong Maven brand. I thought they were the correct tiles to add jokers to a vintage set but once I received them, I realized they are not what I need.

Tiles only, will ship in a small box, without racks $170. If you’d like the original plastic racks, it just bumps up the cost of shipping. Missing one East tile. There are a couple of blank tiles that can be stickered East. I’m happy to make one for you.

There are 10 jokers and I believe extra flowers.
