See U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren in conversation with Amber Tamblyn at Live Talks Los Angeles for a virtual talk about her new book, "Persist," on May 4.

Tickets include a signed book.

Persist is both a deeply personal book and a powerful call to action. Warren writes about six perspectives that have influenced her life and advocacy. She’s a mother who learned from wrenching personal experience why child care is so essential. She’s a teacher who has known since grade school the value of a good and affordable education. She’s a planner who understands that every complex problem requires a comprehensive response. She’s a fighter who discovered the hard way that nobody gives up power willingly. She’s a learner who thinks, listens, and works to fight racism in America. And she’s a woman who has proven over and over that women are just as capable as men.

Now approaching its 50th anniversary, NPR might’ve gone under in the early ’80s if its journalists didn’t drum up support—from political and media luminaries—and, most importantly, cash. In an excerpt from her new book, author Lisa Napoli reveals how NPR’s “founding mothers” led the ...

Senator Tammy Duckworth with Bradley Whitford

We are excited that Sen. Tammy Duckworth will be in conversation with Bradley Whitford for our event on April 5.

Her new book is "Every Day Is a Gift."

In EVERY DAY IS A GIFT, Tammy Duckworth takes readers through the amazing—and amazingly true—stories from her incomparable life. In November of 2004, an Iraqi RPG blew through the cockpit of Tammy Duckworth’s U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter. The explosion, which destroyed her legs and mangled her right arm, was a turning point in her life. But as Duckworth shows in EVERY DAY IS A GIFT, that moment was just one in a lifetime of extraordinary turns.

"Not to distract from these two great writers that are being presented to me, but I'd love to have 30 minutes to personally look through Doris Kearns Goodwin's bookcase. One of the great pluses with Zoom meetings is that we get to see a lot of people's personal libraries."

Roger McGuinn of the Byrds reflecting on Nov 22 JFK assassination

Ten years ago today we hosted Roger McGuinn at Live Talks Los Angeles....

The Byrds included a recording of "He Was a Friend of Mine" on their 1965 album Turn! Turn! Turn! In The Byrds' version, the song's melody is altered and the lyrics are changed to lament the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The band's lead guitarist Jim McGuinn rewrote the song's lyrics in late 1963 to give it a more contemporary slant and transform it into a eulogy for President Kennedy

COVID-19 says, "Not this year." But we're doing it anyway.

For the last few years at Live Talks Los Angeles, we have had three pop-up signed book sales, with books from our various events over the last 10 years. We had wine, cheese and yes, hummus; and folks came to our office, mingled and shopped, had a drink and a bite. 10% of proceeds supported various worthy causes. This year our Mother's Day sale, our mid summer sale and our December holiday gift sale were all cancelled due to the pandemic.

Pivot, pivot, pivot and here we are. We built an online store and the show must go on. 10% of sales support the Los Angeles Downtown Women's Center, with a minimum contribution of $1,000.

So, we invite you to visit our store and shop from the comfort of your home. Signed books make great gifts!
