Out today! Gary Young & Pavement - Please Be Happy (For Us). From Louder Than You Think: a Lo-Fi History of Gary Young & Pavement (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), to be released on Independent Project Records in early 2026.

Recorded for Louder Than You Think: a Lo-Fi History of Gary Young & Pavement shortly before the documentary’s protagonist (original Pavement drummer and lifelong wildcard Gary Young) passed away at 70, ‘Please Be Happy (For Us)’ marks both a surprising reunion and a heartwarming send-off. Born as a ditty improvised by Gary during filming, it turned into something rather special after his old friend Scott ‘Spiral Stairs’ Kannberg created a suitably trippy musical track (spiced with some Stephen Malkmus feedback yowls). Headstands master Gary Young was always larger than life and out of this world - but, wait, did he just find a way to perfectly boil down what life in this world needs to hear?
