Grimshaw has shared new images of the recently completed LAX/Metro Transit Center Station, designed in collaboration with Gruen Associates and Arup. The $900 million facility marks LAX’s first direct rail connection, linking Metro’s C and K lines to the forthcoming Automated People Mover.

Spanning 11 acres and over 1,100 feet in length, the LEED Gold-targeted station features sweeping canopies, skylights, and glazed screens to support intuitive navigation and daylighting. A bus plaza, bike hub, EV bus charging, and civic spaces with public art and drought-tolerant landscaping position the hub as a key piece of L.A.’s larger mobility upgrade. By 2035, it’s expected to serve 5,000 daily boardings.

Archinect has received new photos revealing that the MAD Architects-designed Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in LA’s Exposition Park is nearing completion ahead of its 2026 opening. Inspired by interwoven canopies, the sculptural form appears to float above the site, seamlessly integrating with an 11-acre landscape by Studio-MLA.

The campus will house galleries, theaters, a library, dining, retail, and new green space. The museum, the first of its kind, will celebrate narrative art across cultures and media, with works by Norman Rockwell, Frida Kahlo, Gordon Parks, and more.

🏆 Big award news this morning: Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura has won the 2025 Praemium Imperiale for Architecture, joining fellow honorees Peter Doig (Painting), Marina Abramović (Sculpture), András Schiff (Music), and Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker (Theater & Film). The 2011 Pritzker laureate is celebrated for his lasting impact on global and Portuguese architecture.

Snøhetta has completed the Lakehouse, a new community hub anchoring the Wendelstrand development near Mölnlycke, Sweden. Set in a former quarry by Lake Landvetter, the Lakehouse is designed to foster social connection ahead of the 1,000-home rollout, offering offices, fitness facilities, dining, and public gathering areas.

The low-slung building integrates into the terrain with stone and concrete lower floors and a timber-framed upper level that evokes the forest canopy. Snøhetta’s master plan prioritizes sustainability, featuring energy-efficient systems, carpooling and cycling infrastructure, and preserved green spaces. A green roof and diffused glass facades support biodiversity and climate control.

Ramón Esteve Estudio has completed the Universidad Europea Turia Campus, turning the former 1873 San Juan Bautista Asylum into a 7,100 m² urban learning hub. The project restores Nolla tile floors, cloisters and chapel while introducing a pine-clad annex that brings overall capacity to about 2,000 students.

Congratulations to Gensler’s Chicago office, recipient of the 2025 AIA Chicago Firm Award for Excellence and Impact. The jury cited a decade of transformative projects—among them the five-story Columbia College Chicago Student Center, the mHUB innovation hub in a repurposed 1926 warehouse, and the forthcoming redesign of North Michigan Avenue—and praised the studio’s mentorship and research culture. The firm will be formally honored at AIA Chicago’s Third Thursdays event on July 17.

Mecanoo, Marvel and Charcoalblue have completed the new Doris Duke Theatre at Jacob’s Pillow, Massachusetts. The 20,000 sq ft, pine-clad mass-timber building replaces the 2020 fire-razed original and is being hailed as “the world’s most technologically advanced theatre for dance.” Features include AI/XR infrastructure, spatial audio, and flexible seating for up to 400.
