Join us for the debut novel book release for Patricia Ann Kindred's 'Magic, Honey Bees, and Weed!"

Saturday, March 26th @ 7pm
@simslibraryofpoetry

About the book:
Magic, Honey Bees, and Weed is a novel in two parts. In The Sorcerer's Granddaughter, Ifeoma, a twelve-year-old girl from a tribe whose supernatural origin begins from a honeybee hive, is kidnapped into slavery. On a southern plantation, she gives birth. The teen passes along some interesting genes to her offspring as a mother.

Five days before Ifeoma's capture, Odogwu, her grandfather, foresees her capture. Prohibited by his Creator from stopping his granddaughter's enslavement, the powerful sorcerer uses magic to create allies for her during her "travail-filled" life in the "spirit man's" world.

In Her Present Day Kin, Ifeoma's descendants from two American cities meet. This meeting results in a supernatural event.
Four days before his wedding, Eric Henderson's fiancé cancels their wedding. On that same day, a cousin arrives in the city. Devastated, Eric goes to his cousin and asks him to perform a feat of magic. The magic goes awry and creates a new life-form.

Happy World Poetry Day from World Stage Press! Over the weekend, we celebrated the Women of World Stage Press as well as our newest author, Lynda La Rose, and her debut book of poetry called Sunshine and Concrete.

Here are three ways you can celebrate #WorldPoetryDay

📚 Read a poetry book
📚 Borrow a poetry book from your nearby library, we recommend @simslibraryofpoetry 😉
📚 Purchase a poetry book from us - link in bio

Bonus: Support a poet by posting a picture of their book on social media and tagging them. #Supportyourlocalpoets

Sunshine and Concrete is a book that will take you high as the sky with poems about the magic of summer, curry cooking in a coal black pot, grade school parties back in the day, nightclubbing in L.A. and the simple beauty of apricots. The poems will also smack you down on the ground with tales of pandemic survivial, racism, insurrection and wanton political corruption. Dichotomies exist in this book, and they both hold hands.

About the book:
In loving my salt-drenched bones, karo ska, a bi-racial survivor of child sexual abuse, is not afraid to tackle the topics we rarely talk about — anxiety, depression, suicide, racism, grief. Ska invites us to swim through the tumultuous rivers of healing and asks that we fall in love with our vulnerabilities. Through striking images and poignant metaphors, ska shows us the power of being our true, authentic selves.

To open the pages of this book is to open the folds of this poet’s heart and imagination. Her narrative is honest and accessible. Her journey, intersectional and sacred. Black feminist and queer poet, Imani Tolliver, offers Runaway: A Memoir in Verse.

“Pam Ward shapes the distance of remembering with poignancy, a black eye, a knocked down Dinah, and blam blam. In her pen, language croons on “the corner of 43rd and pain.” Summon your courage and plunge into Ward’s truths; you’ll be glad you did.”
