Just finished a DoorDash delivery I almost declined and honestly now I wish I had because this whole thing irritated me way more than it should’ve.
Drove the miles.
Burned the gas.
Sat in traffic.
Waited forever at the restaurant.
Dragged the order up to the door.
Customer comes outside acting all proud handing me a cash tip like this was supposed to be some huge generous moment.
I look down and it’s $10.
Okay… fine.
Whatever.
Except tell me WHY this bill looked like it personally survived the Great Depression.
I’m talking faded.
Wrinkled.
Bent in every direction.
Looked like it had exchanged hands during the Civil War before somehow ending up in my palm tonight.
I genuinely paused for a second trying to figure out if I got tipped or handed a historical artifact from a museum archive.
And somehow that made the whole interaction feel even more irritating.
Because for the size of the order, $10 already wasn’t exactly making me want to cry tears of gratitude in the driveway.
But then handing it over like:
“here you go boss 😎”
while the bill itself looks like it fought in Vietnam just made the entire thing weirdly insulting.
Like am I supposed to spend this?
Frame it?
Take it to Antiques Roadshow and ask what century it came from?
And before people rush in with:
“a tip is a tip!”
Sure.
But drivers are out here burning gas, putting miles on their cars, dealing with traffic, waiting at restaurants, and slowly destroying their vehicles so people can avoid leaving the couch.
Meanwhile customers act like handing over the absolute bare minimum deserves a standing ovation.
This whole delivery genuinely had me sitting in my car afterward wondering why delivery culture has become so painfully irritating lately.
