Fall and winter showed up in Yosemite on the same day 🍂❄️

An early storm dusted the valley in snow while the oaks were still holding onto their orange. Bridalveil and Yosemite Falls were roaring, the trails were covered in wet leaves, and the whole valley smelled like pine and wet granite. This was a few falls ago, and it’s still one of my favorite days behind the camera.

Send this to your friend who keeps saying “next summer” on that Yosemite trip you keep talking about.

🍂 Fall is officially here. These aspens are still living rent-free in my head.

A few autumns ago I spent a week wandering the trails around Crested Butte while the whole valley turned gold. And as the first day of fall rolls in I can’t help but think back on that experience. Swipe for the peaks, the winding river, and the little cabin I’d still move into tomorrow.

Where’s your favorite place to see fall colors?

¡Que viva El Salvador! 🇸🇻

Today is September 15th… El Salvador’s Independence Day. 205 years since 1821, and this small country I love still packs more into one trip than places ten times its size.

Hope you have a pupusa 🫓 to celebrate this beautiful country. Have you been to El Salvador? Drop your favorite spot below 👇

American Airlines A321 Domestic First Class: Is it worth it?

As a travel photographer, I get to travel to some cool places. So I get to experience a lot of airlines, flights, classes of service, seats, etc. I figured I’d bring you along on this part of the journey as well. So join me on American Airlines Domestic First Class from Salt Lake City to Dalles aboard an Airbus A321 as we head home from a photography trip in Utah.

We take a look at the essentials: the seat, power supply, food and bathrooms. Is domestic first class aboard American Airlines worth it? Well overall (despite some floppy fries), I had a great experience and would fly it again.

Also quick note: I paid for this ticket. The opinion is my own and not affiliated with anyone. As this is my first flight review, lemme know in the comments if there is something I missed that you would have like to know or would like to see me include in future reviews.

I first visited Yosemite in the summer of 1990. I slept under the stars and played in the Merced’s freezing waters with my family. I made core memories that trip that I’ll have with me for the rest of my life.

How many of us have a memory like this? Something that’s only possible because we agreed some land is too beautiful, too precious to belong to one person. It belongs to all of us. Each generation a steward, charged with protecting it so the next can enjoy it too.

That idea is under attack. This year alone: the Roadless Rule is set to be repealed. Bears Ears and the Grand Staircase were slashed by over 90%. The mining ban protecting Boundary Waters was overturned. And border wall construction tore through Big Bend (only paused after lawsuits forced a halt).

And now this: on Aug 28th The Washington Sun reporter Anna Kramer broke the news that the administration is quietly working to hand a piece of Yosemite to a private developer with ties to top Trump officials, so they can build a road connecting planned luxury homes to the inside of the park. Three separate administrations from both parties rejected this exact deal over the last two decades.

The acreage at issue is small. But if you can carve up our most iconic park to make private development more convenient, nothing is sacred anymore and everything is up for grabs.

I’ve sat with this for two weeks, angry. The poet Zack De La Rocha once said that anger is a gift… and I believe it can be if you channel it into something positive.

In my Link in bio is a petition from Save Public Lands: a coalition of hunters, conservationists, anglers, and park lovers. They’re pushing for a million signatures by Public Lands Day, September 26th.

Sign it. Call your reps. Let’s protect this for the next generation too.

Is OM SYSTEM’s Live Composite Mode the ultimate cheat code for long exposure photography? Hi, I’m Christian! I took the OM-3 out in Houston, Texas to capture some light trails and answer this question. I think the results speak for themselves but what do you think? Let me know in the comments below!
