Did you know that a Sprinter is not a Corolla and a Corolla is not a Sprinter?

Although KE25s and TE27 (Mangos) are commonly (and collectively) called Sprinters, Corollas and Sprinters are 2 separate brands. In 1970, The parent company Toyota signed a contact with it's subsidiary Toyota Corolla Store giving them exclusive rights to sell Corollas. That limited the parent company Toyota from selling its own Corollas which at that point were selling like pancakes. So Toyota had to find a loophole around their own politics to be able to sell it's own product - create another "Corolla". Because they were already using Sprinter as a variant name on KE10s, they decided to make it a distinct brand in 1970 for the E27 series. Hence the Sprinter brand was born. To avoid lawsuits because of its contract with Toyota Corolla Store, Toyota decided that Sprinters will NOT be badged as Corollas at all. Although it shares the same body but differs in aesthetics, Toyota made it a separate brand in 1970. Corolla's sports models were Levins and it's Sprinter counterpart were Truenos. Although TE27 Sprinters are technically Corollas, they were never badged as Corollas.
