American Independent Pictures
American Independent Pictures looks to form an affiliation between small cinemas and indy producers to create a script to screen network of creators and fans of independent films. The group would encourage and assist in the creation of small screening sites and theaters throughout the country and help facilitate their operation by providing a wide selection of films
carefully selected from world festivals and producers that are available for exhibition in their communities. and overseas are unavailable to be screened except in festivals in the larger cities. This impoverishes cultural exchange, artistic expression, and personal growth on a worldwide scale. The economic censors are crushing the lifeblood out of the cinema art and with the closure of most video stores and the choice by Netflix to turn its back on the independent sector of films, there remains practically no means for most audiences to see the amazing work being done in the U.S. and around the world. Fans of film in many towns and cities have responded to this challenge by opening micro cinemas and small theaters in clubs, bars, living rooms and down at the Moose lodge. With the availability of inexpensive digital projectors any facility can now double as a cinema. All that’s needed is a way to access the filmed content waiting in the wings in an efficient way. We’ve begun this page as a means of locating the existing small cinema operators around the country and opening discussions about what films they would like to play in their respective theaters. If you are an owner of a cinema or know of one in your area please see that they link up with us right away. If you are a fan join up to learn about new films coming your way. And if you’d like to learn more about starting your own cinema for “fun and profit” as they say, let us know your thoughts about that. Here’s to indy pictures. Steve Lustgarten
