Reflecting on a fantastic Saturday at the Language Access Summit hosted by Prisma Health at the USC School of Medicine Greenville USC School of Medicine Greenville!

It was an incredibly enriching day dedicated to advancing language access across healthcare. A few key takeaways that really resonated:

Bridging the Gap Accurately: Powerful discussions on the vital responsibility shared by interpreters and medical providers to convey the exact message without losing nuance, ensuring true equity in patient care.

The Science of Rest: Fascinating research presented on the critical role sleep plays in cognitive function, memory retention, and our overall well-being an essential reminder for professionals in high-focus fields.

Elevating Communication: An insightful breakout session focused on sharpening communication strategies specifically tailored for interpreters in dynamic settings.

Beyond the learning, the highlight was catching up with wonderful colleagues and meeting so many passionate advocates doing transformative work here in the Carolinas. Grateful for events that sharpen our skills, protect language access, and strengthen our professional community.

​Existen excepciones de idioma en USCIS que te permiten hacer tu proceso en tu lengua materna:
​🔹 Regla 50/20: 50 años de edad + 20 años como residente permanente.
🔹 Regla 55/15: 55 años de edad + 15 años como residente permanente.
🔹 Regla 65/20: 65 años de edad + 20 años como residente (Además estudias solo 20 preguntas cívicas selectas).
​📌 Dato importante: Para la entrevista necesitarás asistir con un intérprete que traduzca con precisión entre tú y el oficial de inmigración.

En una entrevista de inmigración, ya sea para residencia, asilo o naturalización, cada palabra cuenta.
Llevar a un familiar o amigo que "se defiende en inglés" parece la opción más fácil, pero las preguntas de los formularios de USCIS están llenas de tecnicismos legales. Si quien interpreta no conoce los términos exactos, puede:
❌ Omitir información crucial
❌ Cambiar el sentido de tus declaraciones
❌ Generar contradicciones ante el oficial

While the ceremony was conducted primarily in Spanish, we made a concerted effort to ensure language accessibility for our non-Spanish speaking community members, fostering an inclusive environment for all attendees.

I am absolutely thrilled and deeply honored to announce that I have successfully passed my examination to become a certified interpreter in education! 🎉🥳 This achievement is particularly special as I am among the inaugural group of interpreters to be awarded this groundbreaking certification, making this moment truly monumental for both myself and the interpreting profession.
My background as a teacher, coupled with my enduring passion for children and education, makes this endeavor particularly heartwarming. It provides a valuable opportunity to apply my prior knowledge and experience to a meaningful cause. This certification seamlessly connects my past dedication to the classroom with my current commitment to language access, directly supporting students and families in a profound way.
