One of our favorite films we did over the last few years was "Memento Mori" it's a sci-fi film about technology and the future that isn't dystopian. So often the future is depicted as doom and gloom, but we wanted to tell a story how advancements in technology can impact people's lives in way that could be positive, in this case messages from the future from ourselves that can help us live today. How often do we think, what would I tell my past self about what I've learned in life? Continuing with our celebration of 20 years making movies here at PBE we wanted to share one of our favorites. "Silent Sonata", produced for the Yes We Cannes 48 Hour Film Project in 2024 Global Competition, the assignment was make a silent film, so we did the movie from the point of view of someone who was newly hearing impaired. So we produced this movie back in April, shortly after the new/old regime took power. We thought let's do something really wild, what would a modern day witch trial look like? None of us could predict the events that would unfold in the last few months or the speed at which everything has changed. The country you went to bed in, could be different by the time you wake up. That is what Witch Hunt is about. We were apprehensive about releasing it online, but as film festivals have grown more expensive and the return on investment for those has dwindled I figured just get it out there while it still has some relevance, and with the way things are going while we are still able.

For the past 20 years I have been producing films under the Pico Blvd Entertainment banner, starting with down and dirty films in the streets of Chicago where we produced our first feature Farewell Darkness. Later we moved the show on the road to Los Angeles for 13 years where we did some great work during that time. Now for the last five years we've been back in the Mid-West working out of Wisconsin as our home base, but really we've been working everywhere. As a celebration of our company's two plus decades of work we are going to be releasing some of our favorite work on Youtube publicly for the first time. Some already had their festival run and it's time to share them widely, others haven't been seen outside of small groups. all of them have something in them that we are proud of, and I look forward to sharing them with you now. So in honor of the spooky season the first one we are sharing with you is "The Song of Lakhe" a Horror Musical we produced in 2024 for the Wisconsin 48 Hour Film Project. I don't know about you but I grew up on a steady diet of action and adventure films in the 1980's. They didn't have visual effects the way they do today but they had a secret weapon they employed on the audience to thrill and delight movie goers... Story. Yes, story is even more important in action films than in a drama where mood and tone can sometimes make up for a thin or slow paced narrative. In an action film your story is going by at twice the pace so your storytelling skills have to twice as sharp. I have to admit I struggled as a writer early in my career just to finish a script dealing with ADD and Dyslexia reading and writing was always difficult. But like all writers I had to push through my walls and move forward and n the process I learned a lot about the craft that had to become muscle memory and now instinct.
