the fact is that ribcages are soft and if you apply life long pressure to them, they might change! bu that does not necessarily mean it was damage!

the discussion of the safety of corsets is extremely complicated, and nuanced! and i do miss things. but i am definitely glad to be corrected.
these videos are more about my own curiosity and theorizing than asserting that i am some kind of expert on corset safety.
i’m just sharing my thoughts.

in the future i will approach this kind of content differently!

CORRECTION: there is some research to suggest that corsets had the capability to reform the lower ribs-this teach also suggested that this did not change life f expectancy. this video was specifically. addressing the myth of the, “corset liver” but failed mention that bones are in fact an organ! my bad!

have you heard this myth before?
unfortunately it’s hard to say what exactly were the effects on the body from corsetry-because medicine wa not advanced enough to be able to reliably record what was happening inside the body after life long sets corset wearing forming the organs some suggest that corset wearing could, however- change the shape of the lower ribs-which i think is very interesting.

what do you think looks better? busk or no busk?

busks were worn from the inception of corsetry in the 16th century till now in contemporary corsetry and they provide vital support and structure to the front of corsets and stays.

do you know busks were such an important part of the function of corsets?

busks are interestingly- a very common piece of scrimshaw which was folk art made by sailors and whalers, who given how long sea journeys could be- would often make beautiful intricate art from various whale bones and baleen. and then would be given to their lovers upon finally returning home!
