2.5 year old Golden Retriever ❤️
We received the news that Dutch is a very rare case…
The bone marrow biopsy was basically inconclusive. There isn’t even a test to confirm it but the doctors THINK it’s chronic myeloid leukemia which is a very rare type of cancer. Extremely high white blood cells, high neutrophils, low platelets, and low PCV points to this. Platelets are steadily increasing but still low.
They did start Imatinib chemo over a week ago. The doctors said that this is the better type of cancer to have. + the type of chemo for this cancer has done well with dogs and they can live for years. This is good news because we want to have him for as long as we can. We’ve been through rollercoaster of events since this news which was July 18. Very long story… full story + gofundme on my profile page.
Today, August 2 - after another type of chemo treatment they tried a few days ago, he went downhill. He is back in the hospital because of critically low red blood cell count. Received another* blood transfusion and is doing better. To put him down is one of the hardest decisions we will ever have to make. Doctors said to give it one more week & this will be our last blood transfusion we can afford. Prayers for a miracle for our baby ❤️
