The Strawberry Supermoon graced skies overnight Monday into Tuesday, reaching peak fullness at 7:52 a.m. EDT Tuesday, according to NASA. Skygazers across the globe snapped photos of the brilliant display.

June's moon was named the "Strawberry Moon" by the Native Americans because of the strawberry harvest that occurs around the same time.

A moon is considered a supermoon when it's in its closest point to Earth in orbit. The moon's proximity to Earth makes it appear up to 7% larger and 15% brighter in the sky during a supermoon.

Earth is rotating faster than it has in the last half-century, resulting in our days being ever-so-slightly shorter than we’re used to. And while it’s an infinitesimally small difference, it’s become a big headache for physicists, computer programmers and even stockbrokers.

Compensating for the lost time may prove challenging for scientists.
