Of the over 1,300 residential properties lost to the fires, only about 49 homes have been reconstructed in West Maui and Kula as of Aug. 5, 2025, with another 280 homes under construction and 184 more in the permitting process.

More than half of fire-affected households have transitioned into permanent housing but nearly 40% of displaced residents have not returned home by mid-2025.

Debris clearing is complete in residential and commercial zones. Water systems are decontaminated and ready for reconnection.

While Maui County concentrates on getting Lahaina residents back into their homes, the town’s iconic Front Street business district is still far from ready for construction.
