This is the week leading up to Christmas and once again, we reflect how Christ came once for His people -and He will come for us again. Because his throne is established forever. We pray that the Lord grows an awe and wonder that the King of Kings and Lord of Lords was given to us as an infant child, as God-With-Us, as Joy to the World.

If you are a believer looking for a dose of wisdom in leadership, inspiration through self-doubt, or awe of how God is activating multi-ethnic, urban youth leaders, you are in for a treat. Our special guest this week is Tommy Nixon, CEO of non-profit Urban Youth Workers Institute, husband and father (to five kids, six chickens, two dogs and two ducks!). As he talked about his current mission of "developing urban leaders who will shape the future of the Church" and its significance, Tommy offered nuggets of wisdom he had collected along the way. A few of them included: Ask the Holy Spirit specific questions, press into nuance while standing on the truth of Scripture, and know that attitude and perspective are things within our control. Tune in to hear the full conversation (LINK: https://www.togetherla.net/tommy-nixon ) and his personal testimony. Do you also wok in the realm of urban space or want to stay connected with Tommy or his organization? Follow them on Instagram (@uywi), Youtube channel, Facebook, Twitter and Website.

This week’s special guest was Meredith Barnes, author of All the Time and frecklesandfortitude.com.

Interviewed by Tanya Pitre, Meredith talked about how her devotional book explored the concepts of time in the daily routine, in the wider scope of our lives and in its ultimate design and purpose. One of her conclusions?: God created time for us, not for Himself. Time was made to be a companion and help -not an enemy- for our existence and enjoyment.

If you find yourself astonished by that perspective, tune in to hear more of her insights (SPOTIFY LINK✨: https://open.spotify.com/episode/39oLlZ9ObfY5N7eMECWJ1n?si=yiw8ZXzsSY67ABQYvuMRQw&dl_branch=1&nd=1) which you will find equally surprising and uplifting, as well as her personal stories of how the Lord re-shaped her misconceptions of time. To order her book, All the Time is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Walmart. You can also request a copy by emailing [email protected].

We talked to one of our very own team members this week, Michael Mata, to hear his thoughts on why Christians need to learn how to to "exegete" urban communities (much like a text) by listening to locals, making field observations (eg- reading the graffiti, seeing how people interact with one another in buildings, walking not driving etc.), learning about the land's histories, understanding the strengths and assets within the community and taking on a proactive (rather than a reactive) advocacy 🏙. Michael also gave a timely reminder that prayers need to be paired with risks and action 🙏🏼.

Tune in (LINK IN BIO | Also on Spotify, Google Podcast, Apple Podcast and all major streaming services under “Together LA Listening Tour”) to listen with us how he observed the escalating racial and political tensions in LA, how the gospel champions diversity, what gives him hope and what has continued to concern him.

We know that our listeners will be challenged to re-think what it means -and what it takes- to love Los Angeles and be a servant-leader who lifts others up 🕊

Check out the Day 1 lineup for our FREE virtual event, Remembering Dr. King: Out of the Mountain of Despair, a Stone of Hope event, from January 18 - 22! 🌟 We are partnering with Resource Global, Together L.A., Renew Chicago, and several other organizations for this week-long event to revisit the prophetic words that Dr. King spoke more than 60 years ago, to look at the Scripture that runs through those words, and to take the opportunity to be challenged and shaped anew. For more information, visit our website: https://www.thegrowcenter.com/remembering-dr-king
Great time last night sharing re: "The Gift of Reinvention in Unsettling Times." Thank you Together L.A. and The Grow Center for Church and Mission
https://gf.me/u/y6hzvf Hi, We are Voice of Calling. We wanted to first give a brief introduction to our organization. Voice of Calling functions under the following three, main mission points: we listen, we go, we teach. In the initial stages of our organization, our members created lectures to teach young students about computer science. Moreover, we held camps for underprivileged members of our society who do not have access to computers. More recently, we collected computer parts and tablets to send to Africa in order to provide exposure to computer science to the kids in the region. During the pandemic, we taught students from low-income backgrounds online and made face shields with 3D printers and masks to send to healthcare workers and nearby foster homes. For the upcoming 2020-2021 year, we are planning to take on a series of new projects. First, we will hold online classes for children in Tanzania. We plan to do this by partnering with a school in Tanzania established in 2012 through E3Empower IT Academy. To ensure access to computer science to these children, we already sent 12 computers to the Lokoti school in Turkana, Kenya, and we want to continue to raise funds to send more devices in the future years. Every group member put in countless hours and effort to raise funds and we’re all excited to continue to work hard. Secondly, we want to help provide clean water to Kenya’s Turkana tribe. As shown clearly in the clip, access to clean water has consistently been lacking in the tribe, and not much has changed in the past 20 years. In the tribe, everyday is a struggle to get access to a basic resource that we have the luxury of taking for granted. Currently, we decided that the best way to help the tribe is by sending them filtered water bottles, so we plan to hold fundraisers to purchase and send these bottles to the tribe. We sincerely hope that you will take the time to consider donating to our project. Every small contribution can make a huge difference in the lives of these people. Despite the challenging times we are going through at the moment, it is important to not lose sight of how blessed we are to have the ability to share and help others. With love as our guiding principles, we can all make a difference in the world. Thank you.
