Cambodian Worker Seriously Injured After Being Hit by Thai Vehicle While Walking to Buy Food — Then Demanded to Pay Compensation
A Cambodian worker named Ngat Sophat, a 38-year-old male from Kok Khmum Village, Kok Khmum Commune, Thma Koul District, Battambang Province, was seriously injured after being struck from behind by a Thai vehicle while walking along the roadside to buy food. Despite his injuries, he was later demanded to pay additional money by the driver.
Due to the severity of his injuries, the victim was urgently transferred to Battambang Provincial Hospital for further treatment.
The incident occurred on June 25, 2025, in Thai territory, when a Thai vehicle struck the victim with full force from behind while he was walking along the roadside. The impact threw him several meters away, causing serious injuries.
It is reported that following the closure of border crossings between Thailand and Cambodia, many Cambodian workers—young and old, men and women—decided to return to Cambodia through various routes. The victim and his family were among those returning. They hired a Thai vehicle to travel back to Cambodia along with other passengers.
During the journey, the vehicle’s driver stopped to allow passengers to get food. While the victim was walking peacefully along the roadside, he was suddenly hit from behind by another Thai vehicle, causing him to be thrown and seriously injured.
Shockingly, the driver who hit him not only failed to take responsibility but also demanded the injured Cambodian worker pay compensation.
Later, after the victim’s family intervened and negotiated with the driver, they rushed him to the Pailin provincial border, where the Governor of Pailin Province deployed a team to assist in time.
