Strawberry Hands — A Jazz Blessing for the Animal is OUT TODAY!

We could not be more excited to see this beautiful beast of a record make its way out into the world. Rejoice, for Strawberry Hands has blessed us with a masterpiece.

The full album is now streaming on all platforms and hopefully spinning on a turntable near you. LPs and downloads are available on bandcamp, as linked in our bio. Ask your local shop to stock it if they aren’t already.

Strawberry Hands - “Song of Descent”
• Now streaming everywhere •

Today we release the third single and make our final descent into the labyrinthian underworld that is A Jazz Blessibg for the Animal. A mind-bending video by Joseph Paul Alvarado illustrates the journey, thankfully with Strawberry Hands’ Jacob Brunner holding the lantern and guiding our way.

As Jonathan Pfeffer JP pens in the album’s press release, “Song of Descent” flirts with a Chopped & Screwed purple haze, like Mellow Gold on codeine, to evoke Brunner’s descent into himself, a meditation on impermanence and death as a return to peace.

Jacob explains:

“These are briefings from the tail end of a major depression; a report from the other side while still covered in the sludge of the underworld. After my long journey, there is a sober hope: my descent from a bridge or into hell has transmuted into a more productive descent into the unconscious, where the wisdom of impermanence and uncertainty has loosened my knuckles.”

Strawberry Hands - A Jazz Blessing for the Animal is out everywhere next Friday 9/18/2026.

We look forward to seeing all the Philly heads Johnny Brenda's Fishtown this coming Sunday 9/13 for the big record release party. Happy Release Day to Dos Santos! Their new album Es Amor is truly a heart-felt, life-affirming call for togetherness, wether in the streets or on the dance floor.

We couldn’t be more excited to see so many folks connecting with the music this week. From Bandcamp including it in today’s Essential Releases column, to Treble Music naming it their Album Of The Week, to Sandra A. Today also sees the release of “What Plant Jumps Over Me?”, the second single and next piece of the expansive puzzle that is Strawberry Hands upcoming album A Jazz Blessing for the Animal, out September 18th on Otherly Love.

“What Plant Jumps Over Me” finds Jacob Brunner’s falsetto at its most plaintive, uncovering the fork between It Was Hot So We Stayed in the Water, “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” and Robert Wyatt’s Rock Bottom. The title — scrawled on artist friend Jim Strong’s childhood bedroom wall — asks the album’s central question: why must I have the burden of consciousness?

“I associate mania with a kind of grandiose spiritual merger with the world,” Brunner explains, “but also with talking s**t and nearly getting into fistfights on the basketball court. It’s not all delusional positivity.”

Don’t fu***ng tell me that our hero is dead
‘Cause I can’t go in his stead
I’m still working on my
Songs that quietly peck at your chest
And stroke the back of your head
Before they go and shatter

Brunner explains the song as:


“A binary-form inquiry into the bipolar spectrum: breathlessly enjambed, stream-of-consciousness verses ride a swaggering groove of equal parts grandeur and anger. Then the star burns up, time slows down, the frequencies grow heavy, and I am left in the dark with questions about the burden of consciousness.”

Despite the dark themes at work, the song’s uplifting spirit still points towards the light:

We can go dream on the hay
And let the mind heal from the day

The single comes complete with a stunning and appropriately prismatic music video shot and edited by Philadelphia filmmaker Marissa Losoya.

Today, Dos Santos share “El Lobo,” the final single ahead of the release of the Chicago alt-Latin quintet’s fourth album, Es Amor, out August 28 via Otherly Love.

“El Lobo” (“The Wolf”) was among the last songs written for the album and draws its imagery from the desert landscape of West Texas, where bandleader Alex E. Chávez grew up.

Speaking with FLOOD Magazine , who premiered the track, Chávez said:

“And the story conveyed is about crossing that terrain as a stranger, as a traveler, as a migrant (embodied in the figure of the wolf), and both the vulnerability of that experience—the literal exposure to the elements—and the necessity of leaning against memory, hope, and love to get you through, as you leave one home in search of another.”

With guitar work that evokes the American West and falsetto vocals that channel a wolf’s howl, “El Lobo” leans into the melancholic, moody approach to cumbia that has become a Dos Santos staple. Its story of migration, memory, and the search for home speaks to the deeper currents running throughout Es Amor.
