Update - Update

🏛️ **FROM UNDER CONSTRUCTION TO OPEN FOR BUSINESS! 🇮🇹**

Back in January 2024, I had the pleasure of talking with Michelle Burles on *Under Construction* about her dream of creating a bed & breakfast in Italy.

At the time, Palazzo degli Angeli was still a dream in progress.

Now, **THE DREAM IS REAL.** ❤️

Palazzo degli Angeli (Palace of Angels) in Fivizzano, Tuscany, has officially opened its doors! The first guests arrived August 8, and Michelle says they’ve already received **Exceptional 10/10 reviews.**

And after hearing the story behind this place, I LOVE seeing it finally happen.

This is exactly why I love doing *Under Construction*. Sometimes “under construction” lasts a LOT longer than we expect. Sometimes the dream takes years. And sometimes, eventually, you get to stand inside the thing you once only imagined.

I woke up this morning and stepped off into the universe, but I couldn't find my footing.

So I free-floated for a while.

Eventually, I caught hold of the tail of a comet and went around for a bit. It seemed like a reasonable solution at the time.

The universe is very quiet when you're looking for human voices.

Oh, there are radio waves. They sing and pulse through the darkness. There are old television shows drifting around in my head, old radio dramas crackling across decades, songs from bands I have loved for most of my life.

Little signals.

Proof that somebody, somewhere, was here.

But meteorites will still hit you.

They'll ding you up and punch little holes in you and leave you wondering whether this whole comet-riding strategy had a flaw in it.

Still.

You're holding onto the comet.

So around you go.

And around.

And around.

Until suddenly you look up and realize:

Holy crap.

I am REALLY far away from home.

How the hell do I get back?

Maybe that's what I've been thinking about lately.

Not that I'm lonely exactly.

More that sometimes I feel like I have drifted into a very large universe carrying a collection of things I love that nobody around me seems particularly interested in.

“Hey! Listen to this old radio show!”

Silence.

“Look! An episode of this television show I loved when I was twelve!”

Crickets.

“CAN WE PLEASE DISCUSS GENESIS FOR THREE HOURS?”

The comet continues traveling at approximately 400,000 miles an hour.

Anyway.

If you happen to be floating through the universe with a collection of obscure enthusiasms, strange cultural artifacts, old music, forgotten television, bizarre audio productions, historical rabbit holes, or other things you desperately wish somebody else would get excited about with you...

LONE PINE FILM FESTIVAL MEMORIES

Probably a repost but, honestly, I can't remember anymore. That's the newly christened Roy Rogers at left, on location in Lone Pine for his first starring film, UNDER WESTERN STARS (1938 Republic). The masked mystery man standing next to him is director Joe Kane. The picture was shot in March, accounting for the overcoats. Smiley Burnette is lollygagging around, and standing on the box is supporting player Jack Rockwell.

78 episodes.

That number feels both huge and strangely small.

When I started podcasting, I was learning everything as I went—recording, editing, interviewing, troubleshooting, and figuring out what kind of conversations I wanted to create.

Now, across Under Construction and Breakdown: Gunsmoke 55-64, I’ve created 78 episodes featuring authors, artists, professionals, historians, and storytellers.

And the funny thing is… while building all of this, I’ve also been learning the other side of being a creator—figuring out websites, platforms, promotion, and yes… sometimes managing my social media, sometimes not managing it, and sometimes managing it somewhere in between. 😄

The biggest lesson?

Progress doesn’t always look like a huge breakthrough. Sometimes it looks like:
🎙️ publishing one more episode
🎙️ asking better questions than you did before
🎙️ learning a new skill
🎙️ continuing even when you’re still figuring things out

A project grows one small piece at a time.

We’re all under construction.

A dream that stayed in the background for over 40 years became a reality for Michelle Burles, my Season 2 guest on Under Construction.

Michelle dreamed of owning a bed and breakfast, but the timing wasn’t right — until it was. After years working in tourism, hospitality, entertainment, sales, marketing, customer service, and public relations, she stepped away from the “safe” path and followed that dream.

Today, she’s building a new life in Italy and sharing the journey of creating her bed and breakfast. 🏡✨
