Thrifting for golf clubs in Costa Rica means navigating Facebook Marketplace, making offers, and pulling up to grocery store parking lots.

I spotted a mystery Ping bag listed for $110 USD (50,000 Colones), waited a week, and the seller agreed to $66 or 30,000 colones. The clubs were sitting in the back of a pickup truck covered in rust and mildew, but once I got home and started digging, I found a near-mint Titleist 907 D2 driver head hidden inside a headcover, a custom-ordered Ping Craz-e putter, a classic Ping B60, and a rusted Vokey wedge ready for restoration.

How did I do?

I was sorting through some thrifted golf clubs I picked up recently and found this classic Ping ISI driver head. But when I looked closer at the hosel, I realized the previous owner decided to secure the shaft using some mysterious black goo that literally looks like painted-over chewing gum.

​Nothing beats finding a great vintage head at a thrift store, but terrible DIY garage repairs are always waiting to surprise you. Time to pull this head, clean out the hosel, and install a proper shaft build the right way.

Let’s be honest, nobody wants to watch an average golfer grind out double bogeys. (me) So today, I stepped aside and followed 14-year-old phenom Luka Tiger Peterman (+2 handicap) at Valle del Sol Golf Course in San José, Costa Rica.

Watch him carve up Hole 16 (Par 4, 388 yards from the black tees): absolute bomb off the tee, 102 yards out to 8 feet, and a stone-cold birdie putt to finish.

Meanwhile, I’d still be looking for my ball in the treeline.

I was cleaning my wedges by the pool today and realized something crazy: the Scrub Daddy mouth fits a wedge face absolutely perfectly.

​The FlexTexture material gets deep into the grooves without scratching the finish, and using the eye holes gives you crazy leverage while scrubbing. I almost wonder if the inventor of Scrub Daddy was secretly a golfer testing wedge cleaners in his garage.

I need some advice.

Do you tune your adjustable 3w, 5w, 7w, or hybrid lofts for strict yardage gaps on paper, or do you set them up for real-world shot shapes on the course?

Lately, I’ve been experimenting with my 3-wood HL and 3-hybrid.

To keep a 15-yard carry gap between them, I've dialed my 3-hybrid up to 21.0°. On paper, it works: high launch, steep descent angle (40.7°), and a nice soft landing at 180 yards carry.

The catch? I’m leaving a full 14 yards of carry on the table.

When I drop that hybrid back down to 19.0° Standard, ball speed jumps to 127 mph and carry pushes out to 194+ yards (210 total yards).

Looking at how I actually play these clubs, my 3-wood is almost exclusively a Par 5 second-shot tool or fairway finder where maximum rollout matters, I’m not trying to hold greens with it. My 3-hybrid is my 200-yard Par 3 weapon, tight-tee finder, and rough recovery club.

So capping distance just to make a chart look pretty might actually be hurting my real-world strategy.

How do you approach your upper-bag lofts, strict distance gaps or specific shot-making tools?
