It comes with much sadness to share that our brother, Conrad Palmisano, passed away earlier today. He was at home with his family by his side.

After becoming a member of SAMP in 1977, he served three terms as president. He contributed to countless tv shows, films, and lives. His memory and jokes will live on fondly and in all of our hearts.

Rest in peace, Connie💙

A message from Carl Ciarfalio's wife, Teri.

Hello everyone! Happy New Year and thank you a billion times over for helping us to have a way forward in the new year.

I’m just going to give a quick update now because Carl and I both are down with Covid. That was our New Year’s present. But thankfully we’re both vaccinated and the virus has weakened somewhat so both of us are just struggling with flu symptoms. We’re doing our best to keep Carl out of the hospital so that he can go back to rehab in a couple weeks. The goal now is to give him enough strength to go to outpatient therapy.

We are both so grateful for the love you are all showing Carl. If you haven’t seen it yet, an amazing human named Jeff Bridges put up an incredibly kind Instagram post regarding Carl’s situation and I’m seeing some visitors here as a result. Welcome. We are both just overwhelmed with gratitude and renewed spirit.

I also want to update you on some amazing news. Carl’s amazing brothers at The Stuntmen’s Association made some magic happen and they found him a van!!!! Oh my gosh I am smiling and leaking tears of joy as I dictate this. It is perfect and so very special. Carl can sit in the front passenger seat! The independence and confidence it gave him was truly touching.

Mike Ryan and Alex Daniels found and procured and delivered the van along with the great JP Romano. The boys rolled Carl out the door and got him out for a drive. I can report that he came alive in a way none of us has seen for ages.

Funny story. I was out that day with Tiana shopping for her wedding dress. She got engaged during all this and will be getting married next October. Carl’s caregiver, Kay, was here tho and helped the boys get him in the van. She went back inside for a moment and went back out only to find that they were already gone. She freaked out thinking that I would be mad that she didn’t go with him. Clearly, she did not understand about stuntmen! They are of a rare and wonderful breed, and I’m here to tell you that they make the best friends and partners ever.

It was hilarious and joyous. I’m including photos of the delivery and I hope to send you a picture of Carl in it as soon as this sick leaves our bodies. Our joy and love and dare I say hope … simply boundless.

OK I’m going back under the covers. We all send you endless love and blessings and gratitude. You are our miracle.

With love and our very best wishes for a healthy and happy 2024.

A HUGE thank you from the Stuntmen’s Association goes out to everyone who came to our annual Christmas party and toy drive to make it a great success!!!🎅🎄🎉

As usual, our donations will be divided amongst and our local police department’s Winter Wonderland event, where some of our members will help disburse the gifts🎁🎁

Mike Ryan was able to bring out the medical van that he and the Stuntmen’s Association Foundation were able to acquire for Carl Ciarfalio. This was made possible by all of the wonderful love and support that Carl has received personally and through his Go Fund Me.

With the climate in which our industry is currently in from our negotiations with AMPTP, Rob Nederhorst (VFX Supervisor) has decided to put together an informative webinar to educate people on the technical aspect of where we stand on several workflows in the VFX dept.

*NOT a legal or contractual aspect*

Topics include.....
*Digital Doubles
*Principal Talent / Background Talent use
*Capturing Likeness / Recreating Likeness
*Artificial Intelligence Workflows and Advancements
*ETC

The goal of this webinar is to hopefully shed some light and give an understanding to SAG AFTRA members on how our likeness is currently being used by the vfx department to help give everyone the best foot forward into knowing what they are voting for.

Here's an update from Teri Ciarfalio on November 9th, 2023

Hello friends. It’s Teri. Sorry for the long delay in communicating. You’re never not on my mind… but I just didn’t know what to say or how to say it.

So. Carl came home a month ago and has basically been battered ever since. Life punches harder than Tom Cruise and Chuck Norris ever could. Carl is losing some of the ground he gained in rehab and is facing new medical consequences that come with being bedridden and paralyzed. So far solvable, but these issues wear him down. In fact, he’s back in the hospital as I write this.

Bright side. You know your friend Carl? He is so strong. It’s kind of indescribable. I’m just sitting here shaking my head at it. Caring for us. Keeping his humor. Expressing so much love and gratitude. Talking to friends with such joy. Saying goodbye to lifelong friends who are making their final phone calls. I’ll tell you, listening to Carl have great phone conversations with fellow stunt people has been a big part of my life as a stunt wife. Things were quiet for too long. I’m so grateful people are communicating.

So. We are treasuring each other and relationships including all of you. We are working hard to do right by your incredible generosity. Touched it for the first time about 5 weeks ago when they told us he was being sent home. It’s all going to caregivers, equipment and supplies. I have no idea where we’d be without your kindness.

We are keeping this fundraiser up for now partly just to keep you informed. But also because we hope to reach new people to help with what is apparently our new phase.

Just last week the inpatient rehabs told us there is nothing more they can do for him. We thought he’d be going back on a regular basis but apparently his need for assistance in every way does not qualify as a medical necessity. (She said with enraged sarcasm.)

However … there is a well respected facility in Vegas called “Driven”. A gym just for spinal injury victims. Check it out. It was created by a race car driver who became paralyzed. State of the art equipment at prices to match but we will try to get him in there. and try to afford transporting him there.

It is crazy making to know that if SAG hadn’t cut stunt people off from private insurance, Carl could have been covered in a leading spinal cord program all this time. Anyhow … Carl deserves every possible shot.

Lots to do and happy to chase every possibility. The Ciarfalio's send you love and light.

p.s. Carl turns 70 on Sunday. Spare a moment to think of him —- and smile. We will be celebrating. xox

P.P.S - to clarify, Carl has friends who are leaving the planet and they are calling him to say goodbye.

Carl Ciarfalio became a member of the Stuntmen's Association of Motion Pictures in 1985 and served two terms as it's president from 1992 until 1996. He served as Governor of the Stunt Peer Group at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for two terms, which he helped to form in the year 2000. In 2001, Carl was a key player in establishing the first Emmy Award for Outstanding Stunt Coordination. Carl was instrumental in the formation of the annual Ta**us World Stunt Awards and the Ta**us Foundation. He was the stunt coordinator for the inaugural event and served on the WSA Blue Ribbon Committee.

Pounding the ground caught up with our beloved stunt brother. He has experienced a cumulative traumatic spine injury that has robbed him of his ability to move on his own.

Known as "World Record Ron," website:worldrecordron.com and Instagram: he is wanting to fulfill a new record. It’s a bucket list record if you will: "Most sugar glass breakaway longneck beer bottles broken over the head in 30 seconds” Goal is to break at least 60 bottles! This attempt will be Guinness World Record number 50!

He will be joined by longtime friend and Stuntmen’s Association elite member, Vince Deadrick Jr. () and it will be documented and filmed and then shared in the future for all to see! Event will take place at Action Factory. Instagram

Funds from this campaign will help Ron out with medical treatments and surgical expenses, and to assist in his passion for breaking world records, which seems to be the best ‘medicine’ for Ron.

STUNT STRIKE DAY!!!
Thursday, July 27th
There will be a two prong approach - motorcycle brigade and boots on the ground
The stunt strike day is for the entire stunt community so wear your stunt shirts and hats and get the word out!!!!

MOTORCYCLE BRIGADE
Time, Location & Route TBD
There will be a Stunt Strike Ride across town, hitting all the picket lines. It's currently in the planning stages, if you are interested please email [email protected] a nd you will be emailed information as it becomes available.

Notes about the ride:

SAFETY
All laws and picket line protocols will be STRICTLY enforced. NO stunting, tricks, speeding, stopping traffic or anything illegal!!! The eyes of the world are upon us and any injuries or incidents with police will GREATLY diminish our message and reflect badly on the stunt community and entire SAG AFTRA membership.

SIGNAGE
This is a mobile picket line - if you are able, please put signage on your bike or body so everyone knows that this is about as we trek across town. At your local hardware store you can find all kinds of inexpensive DIY flag poles (garden stick, paint stirrer, etc) to zip-tie and duck tape to your bike (make sure it’s secure!). There will be some laminated signs at the event that you can zip-tie to your pole if you don’t make your own stunt strike flag.

ORGANIZATION
We are looking for volunteers to help keep the ride organized and photographers/videographers to document this historic strike! Please email [email protected] to volunteer.

PICKET LINE
9 a.m. - noon

SAG Check-in: Gate 3, 4201 W Olive Avenue, Burbank, CA 91522
It's hot out there! One idea to keep cool is to put your strike message on an umbrella.
Please rsvp to [email protected] so we can estimate the crowd size - we hope it's HUGE!!!!

PARKING:
Streets:
2-hour parking in the residential areas across the street from the studio
Garages:
3500 W Olive Ave, 3 min. from picket ($13/day)
Business Arts Plaza, 3601 W Olive Ave, 3 min. walk from picket ($13/day)
2600 W Olive Ave, 34 min. from picket ($10/day)

RESTROOMS:

A message from our wonderful Vice President . We love you Elle. We appreciate any one that can help, no matter how small the donation. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Gofundme link in bio.

I wanted to let my friends and stunt family know of my current situation. I have been doing stunts and acting for over 25 years. I've unfortunately had to stop working and am now permanently disabled due to a diagnosis of a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy called OPMD. It affects my arms, legs, balance, strength, swallowing, vision as well as many other issues. I have slowed down and did not know that the extent of what was happening was all due to the OPMD. I have told the girls in my group, the Stuntwomen's Association, at our meeting last month. I will continue as VP (as they have graciously voted me in again), for the remaining year, even though I can not do stunts anymore. It has been and still is very hard right now as every part of my day is affected in some way by this disease. It's hard to come to grips with this new situation. Not being able to do stunts or acting anymore is a very hard blow. As an athlete, not being able to play sports is devastating as well. Anyway, I'm sharing this because I want people to know why I can't work anymore. I wanted to make sure all my friends and stunt community knows. As hard as it is to put this down on paper, it's even hard for me to tell people on the phone or in person. Please share this with my other friends in the stunt community. It's easier for me to let everyone know that way. Thank you! Elle
