I had the opportunity to sit down with Tyree Reed for an interview about his upcoming role as Grand Marshal of the Hanford Christmas Parade. The video will be released tomorrow around noon, and there are still more exciting announcements to come.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on a new idea that means a lot to me, and Tyree will be the very first recipient of it. I’ll be making the official announcement this Saturday. Our conversation was truly inspiring. Tyree is a remarkably intelligent and humble individual.

During our drive, he began talking about numbers, dates, and moments we’ve shared over the years. I was amazed as he remembered the exact days, months, and years of our past interactions. He even calculated my birth year instantly in his head and said, “You were born in 1981,” before I could respond. It was incredible to witness how sharp and thoughtful he is.

Tyree is truly a blessing to Kings County and an inspiration to everyone who knows him. I’m proud to call him a friend, and I can’t wait to share what’s next. This is going to be a very special event for our community.

President Donald Trump has officially reversed the name change from Indigenous Peoples Day back to Columbus Day.

What are your thoughts on this move? Do you agree with restoring the traditional name, or do you think Indigenous Peoples Day should have remained?

Hanford’s Sizzler first welcomed guests in the early 1980s, serving as a gathering spot for families, friends, and celebrations for decades. Sadly, the restaurant closed its doors during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and never reopened.

Now, as crews begin to take down parts of the old building, it is bittersweet to watch a piece of Hanford’s dining history fade away. For so many of us, Sizzler was more than a restaurant, it was a place where memories were made. We’ll always remember the meals shared and the laughter that filled those booths.

Despite rumors of a volunteer fire department, the department will consist of locally grown, paid firefighters. Negotiations with the county lowered costs, but they still had to create their own department. It's time. Have you heard these rumors?

A new, fully operational fire department aims to be proactive in serving the community. The department plans to have its own trucks, equipment, building, and people. They also intend to maintain relationships with other city departments. Tag someone who values community safety!

In this exclusive interview, I sit down with Avenal Mayor Alvaro Preciado to address the swirling rumors about the city’s fire protection plans. He responds to claims that Avenal’s fire service would be reduced to a water truck and two volunteer firefighters, calling out the misinformation being spread.

Mayor Preciado also speaks about an audio clip that was shared online and taken out of context, explaining that only a small snippet of the full conversation was posted and clarifying what was really said.

He discusses the council’s vision for creating a homegrown fire department that the community can be proud of, complete with its own fire truck and station. Although this conversation was recorded before the Kings County Board of Supervisors voted to end county fire services in Avenal, he shares how the city planned to move forward if that decision became reality.

Toward the end, the discussion turns emotional as the mayor reflects on the challenges ahead and addresses the ongoing recall effort. This is a candid and insightful look at the future of Avenal’s fire services and the city’s determination to chart its own path.

Avenal’s fire-service negotiations have taken a sharp turn as Kings County Supervisor Richard Valle considers pulling out firefighters by October 31.

Question:
Do you think Richard Valle’s threat to withdraw firefighters is fair to Avenal, or should both sides keep negotiating?
